SMITHFIELD, R.I. – Junior Eliana Brown finished the weekend with three goals in two games, but it wasn't enough against Bryant on Sunday afternoon for Colgate in a 4-3 loss in overtime.
Colgate (0-2) was led by Brown, who is off to a great start with six points in two games. Emily Brash tallied the third goal to give the Raiders a 3-2 lead late in the game and it was the first of her career. Kelsey Jensen and Meredith Gibson added assists for Colgate, while Amanda DiDomizio made two saves in the net.
For Bryant (1-1) it was all Rosie Bird as she tallied a hat trick, including the gamewinner 1:35 into the extra period. Mallory Hancock had two assists and Corinne Woods got the game into overtime with the tying goal with under 10 minutes left. Megan Hancock came up with six stops in net.
Colgate got on the board first with Brown scoring her second goal in as many games with the assist to Gibson. The Raiders tallied the first goal once again after doing the same on Friday against Rider. Both goals were scored by Brown and her second came 11:24 into the game.
The Bulldogs were able to even up the score with 12 minutes left in the half on a penalty corner. Mallory Hancock inserted the ball and Bird put a shot past DiDomizio to tie the game at 1-1.
The Raiders had a 5-3 shot advantage at the half and also had two corner chances to one for the Bulldogs.
The second half begin with a lot of pressure from the Bulldogs with four penalty corners and then Bird netted her second of the game with MaKayla Hancock adding an assist and Bryant had a 2-1 lead with less than 25 minutes left in the contest.
Brown answered back for Colgate, tying the game eight minutes later off of another penalty corner. Jensen found Brown from the top of the circle and Brown was able to shovel the ball into the top of the net to tie the game at 2-2 with 15:08 remaining.
Colgate regained the lead at 3-2 with 11 minutes left as the Raiders capitalized on a lot of pressure as Brash put home her first collegiate goal. She controlled the ball in front of the keeper and got her shot past Megan Hancock for the advantage. However, the Bulldogs fired right back, evening the game at 3-3 just over a minute later with Woods tallying her first of the season.
The Raiders had a good chance to take the lead with a penalty stroke, but Megan Hancock was able to make the stop and keep the game tied at 3-3.
Going into overtime, Colgate had a shot advantage, but couldn't get one on net in the extra period. Bryant was able to capitalize on a breakaway up field as Olivia Jankins found a sprinting Bird and she beat DiDomizio for the gamewinner.
The Raiders had a 7-6 penalty corner advantage in the game and led 12-11 in shots.
Colgate is back in action next weekend in Muncie, Ind., as the Raiders take on Robert Morris and Ball State.
