Raiders Play To 2-2 Draw In Exhibition Game

Women’s Soccer Ties Northeastern in Preseason Finale

Jenna Reapple nets a Colgate goal in an exhibition game vs. Northeastern, which ended in a 2-2 tied.

BOSTON, Mass. – Before Colgate women's soccer kicks off its 2013 campaign, the Raiders traveled to Northeastern University on Sunday afternoon for an exhibition game against the Huskies.

In a back and forth contest, the match ended in a 2-2 draw with both teams netting goals after halftime.

"Today's game marked the end of a productive preseason," head coach Kathy Brawn said. "Northeastern is a solid team. We got to see a little bit of everything, which will prepare us for the teams we'll face in the upcoming games.

"We've had a terrific couple of weeks and are looking forward to the season."

Following a scoreless first 45 minutes, it was Northeastern who got on the scoreboard first. The Huskies got a free kick 30 yards out on the left-hand side of the field. The Raiders were unable to clear the ball out of the box and it found its way to the back of the net for the 1-0 Huskies advantage.

Colgate would not back down, however, scoring the equalizing goal just minutes later. Catherine Williams riffled a shot that ricocheted off the crossbar, but junior Jenna Raepple was there to finish off the rebound.

The Raiders extended their lead to 2-1 after a Colgate header took a deflection off a Northeastern player into the goal.

With 11 minutes remaining in the game, the Huskies were awarded a penalty kick, which they scored to tie the contest.

Neither team tallied a goal in the final minutes, ending the match in 2-2 draw.

The Raiders are back on the pitch Friday when they travel to Burlington, Vt., for the Vermont Tournament. Colgate faces New Hampshire on Friday at 1:30 p.m. and Vermont on Sunday at 1:30 p.m.
