HAMILTON – With the Patriot League Championships coming up in a couple of weeks, the Colgate women's swimming and diving team got three individual events victories from
Emma Santoro and
Lindsey Sagasta in a 177-120 win over UConn.
Santoro and Sagasta each had three individual wins, while
Lia Kunnapas and
Ryan Marynowski added a pair of wins apiece. Overall, the Raiders won 12 events on the day and placed first and second in four events.
“The women stepped up and aggressively went after a win in their final meet, which puts them in a great place leading into the Patriot League Championships,” said head coach
Fernando Canales. “It was a wonderful way to celebrate our seniors' last dual meet. This is a very important win for our program.”
The day started with Kunnapas, Santoro, Sagasta and
Jenna Jacoby taking home a win in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:46.84.
Then each of them won three of the next four events with Sagasta leading the way with a win in the 200 free, clocking in at 1:52.98. Kunnapas then got in the win column in the 100 back with a time of 57.13 seconds, narrowly beating out
Morgan Cohara, who clocked in at 58.03 seconds.
Meghan Shroyer placed third in the event and finished at 59.56 seconds. Santoro then earned a win in the 100 breaststroke at 1:05.83 and
Becca Murray took second with a time of 1:08.14.
Sagasta continued her wining ways in the other two freestyle sprint events, taking home the victory in the 50 free at 24.29 seconds and then the 100 free, clocking in at 52.58 seconds. The 100 free was closer with
Sami Wary touching the wall one second after Sagasta for second place.
Santoro added two victories to her total with wins in the 200 breaststroke and the 400 individual medley. She won the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.63 and then swam to a first-place finish at 4:33.13 in the 400 IM.
Kunnapas earned her second win of the day in the 200 free with a time of 2:03.56. Marynowski ended up taking home wins in both butterfly wins. She started in the 200 fly with a time of 2:03.27 to earn her first victory and then finished with her second win of the day in the 100 fly with a time of 57.49 seconds.
Cohara joined the winners with her victory coming in the 500 free, outlasting teammate
Melanie Lockard. Cohara clocked in at 5:06.21, while Lockard finished four seconds later at 5:10.60.
The Raiders will be back in the pool in two weeks as Colgate heads to the Patriot League Championships, which are being held at Bucknell. The meet this year starts on Thursday, Feb. 21, until Sunday, Feb. 23. The Raiders will head into championship weekend with an undefeated Patriot League record for the third-straight year.
