HAMILTON – The Colgate women's volleyball got 16 kills from
Diane Seely, but it wasn't enough as Lehigh came away with the 3-0 (25-22, 25-20, 25-24) win on Senior Day.
Colgate (20-7, 12-2 PL) had its nine-match winning streak snapped with the loss. Seely had 16 strikes to lead both teams and added four blocks.
Caitlin Cremin had 17 digs and
Kaylee Fifer had 30 assists.
The Mountain Hawks (19-7, 10-4 PL) were led by Jade Van Streepen with 11 kills, but Rachel Charles was the story with 22 dig on the backline. Amy Matula put up 34 assists as well.
Lehigh came ready to play and jumped out to a 16-8 advantage and had a pair of 6-0 runs to earn the early lead. The Raiders chipped away at the Mountain Hawk lead and got it to 22-20 with kills by Lindsay and Seely. The teams then traded points and Lehigh earned the 25-22 win with Kaylyn Genemaras putting the set away at the end to give the Mountain Hawks a 1-0 lead.
Colgate got a quick lead in the second set at 4-1 with kills by Seely and the Raiders were aided by a couple of attack errors from Van Streepen. Lehigh fired back and earned a 7-5 lead with five-straight points. The Mountain Hawks held onto the lead until the Raiders got kills from Katherine Harris and Seely and went on top 16-15. The advantage didn't last long as Lehigh regained the lead at 21-17 with a fast 6-1 run. That lead held up for the visitors and they took a 2-0 lead into the 10-minute break.
The Mountain Hawks kept the momentum into the third set and got out to a 16-9 lead. The Raiders came back and got to within one at 18-17 after an 8-2 run, lead by Seely's three strikes. The teams traded points for the next seven points and then Colgate tied the set at 22-22 with a Harris kill and an attack error from the visitors. The Raiders couldn't get over the hump though as Lehigh scored the final two points on a Vrhel Ana kill and a Colgate error gave the Mountain Hawks a 26-24 win.
Colgate honored its five senior prior to the game as Young, Fifer, Cremin,
Allie Dyer and
Lexi Finger. The Raiders are back in action next weekend with a visit to American and Loyola.
