HAMILTON – The Colgate women's volleyball team made it five sweeps in a row with a 3-0 (25-12, 25-12, 25-8) win over Lafayette on Saturday evening in its annual Dig Pink Match for breast cancer awareness.
Colgate (17-6, 10-1 PL) has equaled its win total from a season ago with 17 wins. The Raiders emptied the bench with all 16 players getting time in the match.
Diane Seely finished with seven kills for a team best, while
Kaylee Fifer added 22 helpers.
Caitlin Cremin and
Allie Dyer were the leaders on the backline with 15 and 14 digs respectively.
The Leopards (6-13, 1-10 PL) couldn't get anything going the entire match. They hit a negative percentage and were led by Karissa Ciliento with five kills.
"This was a complete effort from the entire team," head coach
Ryan Baker said. "
Allie Dyer was awesome tonight in all areas of the game."
The Raiders showed signs of what was to come early in the match with an 11-2 lead right out of the gate.
Kate Reilly led the way with three kills early. Dyer then served up nine-straight points to increase the lead to 21-6. She had four aces during the run and Seely had three strikes. Lafayette tried to come back, but a service error gave Colgate the 25-12 win and a 1-0 lead in the set.
The second set was more of the same with the Raiders getting out to a 16-8 lead with an 11-2 run.
Lindsay Young had two kills during the run and Seely had a pair as well. Colgate finished off the set with 7-1 advantage down the stretch and earned another 25-12 set win and a commanding 2-0 lead.
The Raiders came out in the third set and wasted no time earning the sweep with a
25-8 win. Dyer once again served up a lot of points, including two aces and helped Colgate get out to a 19-3 lead. Reilly finished off the match with a kill and the Raiders won 25-8 to get a 3-0 sweep.
The Raiders hit the road next weekend for an important match against Army on Friday night, followed by a 2 p.m. start at Holy Cross on Saturday.
