| Box Score 2

HAMILTON, N.Y. - The Raiders women's volleyball team split matches Saturday to end the final day of the Colgate Invitational at Cotterell Court.

After losing a hard fought exhibition game to Canada-based Montreal University, 3-0 (25-19, 28-26, 25-14), the Raiders rally back to take down Siena College in three games (25-21, 25-15, 25-16).

In the first matchup, Colgate (0-8) was led by Lindsay Young with nine kills while Kaylee Fifer posted a team-high 22 assists. Caitlin Cremin was once again doing the dirty work with 10 digs.

The Montreal Carabins got a game-high 10 kills from Sophie Bergeron-Leblanc while Maude Menard Ouellette handed out a game-high 31 assists.

The Raiders fell behind 2-0 in the opening set, but put together a 6-1 run to take an early 6-3 lead over the Carabins. However, Montreal fought back to tie the set 9-9, and from then on the Raiders couldn't spark a comeback. Montreal ended the set on a 16-10 run that would be the deciding factor to take the first set 25-19, and a 1-0 advantage in the match.

Set number two showed plenty of back and forth action, as neither team could put together a complete run to gain any separation. The score alternated 19 points into the second set until Montreal was able to score consecutive points to take a 11-9 lead over Colgate. The score remained tight through the remainder of the set, as Montreal still held a slim 20-17 advantage. Colgate responded with 7-4 run to tie the set at 24 apiece thanks to huge kills from Lindsay Young down the stretch. Back and forth we went again until the Carabins took a one-point lead, and Pamela Drapeau would finish the set off with a kill giving the set to Montreal 28-26 to lead 2-0 in the match.

The Raiders had a few rallies throughout the third set, but it just wasn't enough and the Carabins took the final match 25-14 to sweep the Raiders 3-0.

Colgate would be back in action only an hour later against Siena College (4-4) in the final match of the 2-day Colgate Invitational.

Colgate (1-8) had another great game by Lindsay Young with 12 kills and Caitlin Cremin with 16 digs. Kaylee Fifer was an asset to the Raiders as she notched a game-high 37 assists.

Siena (4-5) was led by Taylor Akana with eight kills and 13 digs. Rachel Stoklosa also helped the Saints with eight kills.

In what was once again a back and forth match up, the Raiders held the lead for most of the first set. The Saints took a 5-0 run midway into the match but Colgate nonetheless handled the situation with ease scoring the next five points to tie the game at 16. From then on the Raiders dominated the court ending the match 25-21 and winning the set.

The Raiders showed their skills in much of the second set by leading in both the digs and kills category. Diane Seely led with seven kills while Cailtin Cremin swept the court with seven digs. Colgate ended with a 14-6 run late into the set giving the Raiders set number two, 25-15 and a 2-0 advantage on the match.

Kicking off the third set with a 3-0 run Colgate controlled most of the match. Early into the set though Siena looked like they had some spark with a 4-0 run to tie the game at 4-4. The Raiders decided enough is enough and never looked back keeping a safe five points between them throughout the rest of the game. Colgate ended the match with a great kill by Seely notching the Raiders their first season win.

Colgate will be back in action next weekend as they head to New York City to compete in the Columbia Invitational. The Raiders will have one game Friday against Columbia at 7 p.m. and two games Saturday; Hofstra at 1:30 p.m. and Rhode Island at 4:30 p.m.
