LEWISBURG, Pa. – The Colgate women's soccer team opened up Patriot League play Saturday afternoon with a big win against Bucknell, 4-1.

Colgate (6-4-2) was led by Catherine Williams who earned two goals on the day. Emily Manoogian also notched a goal in the match. Ashley Walsh had another great outing as she posted six saves on the day.

Bucknell (7-5) saw a goal from Evelyn Nicinski. Sandita McDermott earned seven saves in the game.

“With Bucknell off to a great start this season, we knew it was going to take a concerted effort to win today,” head coach Kathy Brawn said. “The combination play of our middies and strikers, along with a solid performance by the back four was impressive. Ashley Walsh continues to anchor this team in fine fashion.”

The Raiders jumped out to a great start pressuring the Bison defense with three scoring opportunities in the first five minutes of play. Jillian Kinter and Jenna Raepple were at the front of the attack for Colgate both notching three shots on goal in the first half. However it was Manoogian who would give the Raiders the 1-0 lead, scoring her third goal of the year just eight minutes into the game.

Colgate would grab another goal before halftime on a scramble in front of the net. The ball hit off a Bison defender from Williams' cross and deflected into the goalt. The Raiders would continue to dominate the ball possession throughout the rest of the half.

Early into the second half Bucknell would respond off a cross from the right wing. Nicinski leaped volleying the ball out of the air and past Walsh to cut the lead to one.

Five minutes later, Williams and Kinter, the dynamic duo, were able to connect twice in a matter of three minutes for their sixth and seventh combination goal of the season. On the first goal Kinter cut in from the right hand side of the field to play a through ball to a wide-open Williams. The second goal for Williams came off a rebound from Kinter's initial shot, giving Colgate the 4-1 lead

The Raiders would end the game with the 4-1 win. They will be back on the pitch next weekend at home for soccer family weekend as they take on two more Patriot League teams. Colgate plays Army on Friday at 7 p.m. and Holy Cross on Sunday at 1 p.m., both at Van Doren Field

NOTE: During the two games next weekend, a team of women's soccer parents will be posted outside Van Doren Field to give fans an opportunity to donate to the Susan G. Komen Passionately Pink for Cure. The team has joined forces with this great organization to help fight against this deadly disease. They are asking for your help as they look to create another successful fundraising campaign.
