USTFCCCA Academic Honorees
HAMILTON, N.Y. (7/26/12) – Senior
Chelsea Burns had a great season on the track, but also did her work in the classroom as she was named as a United States Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association All-Academic Honoree.
To qualify for the USTFCCCA All-Academic Track and Field Team, the student-athlete must have compiled a cumulative grade point average of 3.25 and have met either of the following athletic standards: for the indoor season, a student-athlete must have finished the regular season ranked in the national top 96 in an individual event or ranked in the national top 48 (collective listing) in a relay event on the official NCAA POP list provided by TFRRS.org; for the outdoor season, a student-athlete must have participated in any round of the NCAA Division I Championships (including preliminary rounds).
Burns won the Patriot League and ECAC title in the 5,000-meter run and competed at the NCAA East Regional. She finished eighth with a time of 16:39.83, which was just 11 seconds away from an automatic berth into the NCAA Championships. Burns concluded her senior campaign by setting personal-best times in all six events that she competed in during both the indoor and outdoor seasons. She won three Patriot League titles, one ECAC championship and was a co-recipient of the Colgate Female Athlete of the Year Award.
