STORRS, Conn. (1/29/12) – The Colgate women's swimming and diving team competed in its final dual meet before Patriot League Championships as the Raiders dropped a 152-83 decision to UConn on Sunday afternoon.
Erica Derlath was the most impressive swimmer for Colgate as she posted two event victories, both in the distance events. She started the day with a win in the 1000-yard free with a time of 10:23.17 and edged her teammate
Jenna Daly, who took second at 10:24.71. The two then placed first and second again, this time in the 500-yard free as Derlath clocked in at 5:04.89, while Daly had a time of 5:06.93.
Lia Kunnapas was Colgate's only other winner of the day as she took home a win in the 200-yard free. She swam the event in 1:54.91, which was almost two seconds ahead of three Huskies. Kunnapas also got points on the board for the Raiders with a second-place finish in the 100-yard free with a time of 53.13 seconds, missing first by under 0.5 seconds.
Along with Daly and Kunnapas,
Ryan Marynowski,
Megan Jex and
Becca Murray also had second-place efforts. Marynowski earned points in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:04.65, which was under a second from the winner. Jex took second in the 200-yard individual medley with a time of 2:11.04, while
Emma Santoro clocked in at 2:12.78 for third place. Murray got Colgate points in the 200-yard breaststroke as she took second with a time of 2:26.61.
Today's meet wrapped up the dual season for the Raiders and they will have a few weeks to get ready for the Patriot League Championships, which will take place on Feb. 16-18 at the U.S. Naval Academy.
