Women's Swimming & Diving Downs Binghamton

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/15/12) –
The Colgate women's swimming and diving team won all but two races this afternoon and defeated Binghamton, 180-114, at Lineberry Natatorium.

The Raiders were led by Lia Kunnapas and Erica Derlath. Each swimmer posted three individual victories and was part of one relay win.

Kunnapas started her day with a win in the 200-yard freestyle, but beating three other teammates. She took first at 1:54.01 and Hannah Fitton finished second at 1:56.10, while Jenna Daly and Courtney Callahan ended up third and fourth. Kunnapas then won the 100-yard free and 100-yard butterfly. Her time in the free was 52.85 seconds and then earned the win in the fly with a time of 57.64 seconds.

Derlath won the 1000-yard free, 200-yard butterfly and 400 individual medley. She earned her first win in the 1000 free with a time of 10:32.08 and then followed up with a mark of 2:08.70 in the 200-yard fly to earn her second win. The third win came in the final event of the day, which was the 400 IM. She earned the victory with a time of 4:29.82.

Ryan Marynowski continued to have an impressive week with two more wins coming in backstroke events. After setting the pool record on Wednesday against Bucknell, she won the 100-yard back, clocking in at 59.73 seconds. She then took first in the 200-yard back by turning in a time of 2:08.85. Daly was able to finish in the first in the 500-yard free to become the fourth individual winner of the day for the swim team. She clocked in at 5:08.99, while Erika Mortenson and Melanie Lockard ended up in the next two spots.

The Raiders also took both relay races. The team of Kunnapas, Marynowski, Fitton and Becca Murray got the win in the 200-yard medley relay with a time of 1:49.94. Then Fitton, Derlath, Sarah Button and Emma Santoro finished first in the 400-yard free relay, clocking in at 3:36.79.

In diving, Chloe Russack earned her first win of the season in the 3-meter, scoring a 228.45 and she also finished second in the 1-meter dive with a score of 234.97.

Colgate will enjoy a couple of weeks off before returning to the pool to host Army and Lafayette on Jan. 28.
