COMPLETE RESULTS
HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/11/12) – Lia Kunnapas and
Ryan Marynowski earned two individual event victories apiece to help the Colgate women's swimming and diving team to a 165-133 win over Bucknell in a battle against two of the top-three teams from a year ago.
Kunnapas recorded her first win in the 100-yard backstroke with a time of 57.21 seconds and was able to edge out
Megan Jex, who took second at 59.97 seconds. Later in the meet, Kunnapas was able to take home her second win of the meet in the 200 backstroke, clocking in at 2:03.01 and once again it was Jex on her tail, taking second at 2:07.18.
In addition to Kunnapas' two individual event wins, she also started two relays and helped her teams to wins as well. The first was the 400-yard medley relay and she was joined by
Becca Murray,
Jenna Jacoby and
Hannah Fitton. The team beat out the four swimmers from the Bison by three seconds and posted a winning time of 3:54.42. Kunnapas added to the win total in the final race of the women's side of the meet with a first-place finish in the 800-yard free relay. Kunnapas and Fitton were accompanied by
Sarah Button and
Emma Santoro and clocked in at 7:45.34.
Marynowski also enjoyed a great day in the pool for the Raiders, taking home both butterfly events and giving her team some much need points down the stretch. She swam to her first win in the 200-yard fly with a time of 2:02.23, while
Jenna Jacoby also earned points with her second-place swim at 2:09.07. With the meet coming down to the final few events, Marynowski stepped up and finished first in the 100-yard fly to tally some big points with a swim of 57.27 seconds. Jacoby once again helped out with a second-place finish, clocking in at 59.66 seconds.
Jex was able to break through with a win in the final individual event of the afternoon as she won the 200-yard individual medley to give the Raiders their third event win in a row. She swam it in 2:07.58, while
Erica Derlath took second by under a second at 2:08.29. It was Derlath's second runner-up finish of the meet as she took the second spot in the 1650-yard free with a time of 17:17.50.
Jenna Daly was able to finish third, clocking in at 17:25.04. Derlath got her lone win of the meet in the other distance free event. She swam the 500-yard free in 5:03.98 and Daly wasn't far behind at 5:06.87.
Santoro gave Colgate its first event win of the afternoon with a first-place victory in the 200-yard free with a time of 1:54.17, beating out Liz Porcellio by .78 seconds.
In diving,
Chloe Russack was able to take third in the 1-meter dive with a score of 206.09 and then finished second in the 3-meter, scoring a 243.45.
The Raiders were able to finish one-and-two in the final three events to propel them to the victory after a very competitive meet.
Colgate will be back at Lineberry Natatorium this weekend as the Raiders host to upstate rivals in Cornell and Binghamton at 1 p.m. on Saturday and Sunday.
