Late Run Lifts Raiders Past Bucknell 73-66

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/11/2012) – The Colgate women's basketball team used a late second-half run against Bucknell to win its first Patriot League game of the season 73-66 Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.

The Raiders trailed Bucknell 57-48 with 8:47 remaining in regulation before they went on a 25-9 run to claim their fourth win of the season.

Colgate (4-13, 1-1) was led by Tricia Oakes who claimed her second double-double of the season with 11 points and 11 rebounds, while Missy Repoli scored a career-high 14 points. Jhazmine Lynch also pitched in 14 points to go along with three assists and three steals, while Mariah Jones scored 11 points and Kelly Korkowski added a season-high 10.

The Raiders opened the game with a 12-4 run in the first five minutes of action and then extended their lead to 18-6 with 12:42 remaining after a three-pointer from Jones. But the Bison wouldn't go down easy as they responded with a 23-11 run to tie score 29-29 with 3:08 left in the half. Colgate would reclaim the lead 31-29 after a Repoli jumper, but Bucknell would tie the game again 31-31 with 59 ticks left, before Lynch made a layup in closing seconds to give the Raiders a 33-31 halftime lead.

Bucknell (2-15, 0-2) started the second half with an 11-4 run to take a 42-37 lead with 15:38 remaining. The Raiders would answer back with an 8-4 run, including a pair of three-pointers form Lauryn Kobiela and Repoli, to trim the lead to 46-45 with 12 minutes left. Bucknell would respond with a 11-3 run to claim its largest lead of the game 57-48 with 8:47 remaining, before the Raiders closed the game with a 25-7 run.

Bucknell was led by Shelby Romine, who scored a game-high 19 points, while Lindsay Horbatuck recorded a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds. Felicia Mgbada and Audrey Dotson each recorded 10 points.

Bucknell shot 48.1 percent form the floor, but only 28.6 percent form downtown, while the Raiders shot 43.9 percent and 33.3 percent from beyond the arc. The Bison won the battle on the boards 37-29, but Colgate forced 17 Bucknell turnovers that resulted in 27 points. The Raiders also got 41 points from their bench.

The Raiders will travel to Lehigh on Saturday, Jan. 14. The game is scheduled to begin at 2:00 p.m. at Stabler Arena and will be streamed live on Patriot League All-Access.
