Women's Soccer Hosts Bucknell in League Opener

HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/29/11)
– The Colgate women's soccer team will open Patriot League play this weekend when it hosts Bucknell on Saturday, Oct. 1 at 4 p.m. at Van Doren Field.

The Raiders, who were picked to finish second in the league's preseason poll, are on a three-winning streak following a 2-1 double overtime win over Dartmouth, a 2-1 win over St. Bonaventure and a 3-2 win over Canisius. Senior co-captain Maddie Malone led the team with five points last week from two goals and one assist while junior Jillian Kinter had four points from two game-winning goals and freshmen Caroline Brawner and Jenna Raepple had four points apiece also, from one goal and two assists each.

MALONE AND BRAWNER WIN WEEKLY AWARDS
Senior Maddie Malone and freshman Caroline Brawner were named the BRINE Patriot League Offensive Player and Rookie of the Week respectively for their performances last week. Malone scored the game-winning goal against Dartmouth and then added a goal and an assist in the team's win over Canisius for a five-point week. The Rookie had a four-point week, recording an assist in the Raiders' win over Dartmouth and then collecting three points against the Griffins with a goal and an assist on the game-winner.

SCORING MACHINE
The Raiders have been an offensive powerhouse in the league this season. As a team they lead the league in points (67), goals (23), goals per game (2.09), assists (21) and assists per game (1.91). Colgate is ranked first in the league in all but one of the offensive categories.

Freshman Jenna Raepple, who is tied for first in the league in points and is second in goals, leads the team with 13 points from five goals and three assists. She is followed by junior Jillian Kinter who has four goals and four assists for 12 points, and is second in the league in assists, assists per game and game-winning goals. Following them are Malone, who has nine points from two goals and a league-high five assists, and Brawner, who has eight points from three goals and two assists.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
Colgate was picked to finish second in the 2011 Patriot League Preseason Poll voted by head coaches and sports information directors in the league. The Raiders, who had 79 points and four first-place votes, were projected to finish behind Army, which had 93 points and 10 first-place votes. Following Colgate was Lehigh with 75 points and two first-place votes.

SERIES
Colgate leads the all-time series against Bucknell with a 17-6 record. Since the teams first met in 1991, the Raiders have won 11 of the 12 meetings on Van Doren Field. Its only loss at home was in 2007. The Bison won the meeting last season, 1-0, in Lewisburg, Pa.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL
The Bison (2-6-1), who will also be opening league play with Colgate this weekend, are coming off a pair of double overtime games with a 0-0 tie against Mount St. Mary's and a 2-1 win over Marist. The team has also suffered losses to Penn State, St. Francis (Pa.), Canisius, Buffalo and St Bonaventure. Its only two wins this season were a 1-0 shutout win over Cornell on Sept. 10, and a 2-1 win over UMBC on Sept. 4.

Bucknell, which was picked to finish fifth in the preseason poll, is led by sophomores Liz Dwornik and Chelsey Garkowski as well as senior Megan DeGennaro. Dwornik and Garkowski both have three points from one goal and one assist apiece while DeGennaro has three points from a team-best three assists.
