HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/26/11) –
Sophomore Olivia Nabhan led the Colgate field hockey team to a 3-0 win on Friday night over Ball State by factoring in each goal with two scores and an assist.

Nabhan scored the first two Raider goals, while classmate Halle Biggar scored the second. Biggar also added an assist on Nabhan's second goal to give her five points on the night. Rookie Amanda DiDomizio had an impressive opener with 11 saves to earn the win with a shutout in her first collegiate start.

Ball State controlled most of the pressure in the first half, but couldn't capitalize and outshot Colgate 17-13 in the game. Chelsea Mitchell did her best in front of the cage with four saves in the loss.

Even with the pressure put on by the Cardinals, the Raiders were able to gain offense in the first 10 minutes of the opening half. It paid off as Lauren Dittman drove a shot on a penalty corner off a Ball State defender. The shot deflected to Nabhan on the right side and she slid the ball into the net for the 1-0 lead. The first half ended with Colgate holding that lead and a small 6-4 shot advantage.

Nabhan struck again 11:09 into the second half with her second of the night coming on a nice flick of the ball into the top corner. Biggar did a lot of the work in front of the net and was able to slip a pass to Nabhan, who lifted the ball over a diving Mitchell and into the top of the net.

The final Raider goal came just over four minutes later to make it 3-0. Co-captain Peyton Hawkins took shot that tipped off the keeper's pads. The ball came to Nabhan and she passed it to Biggar and she hit the open net.

Ball State had a 7-4 advantage in penalty corners with all seven coming in the second half.

Colgate will be back in action on Sunday afternoon against Rider at 12 p.m. at Tyler's Field. Ball State and the Broncs will be facing off tomorrow afternoon at 1 p.m. in a neutral site game at Tyler's Field.

NOTES: Nabhan became the second player in as many seasons to record two goals in the season opener as Biggar did it last season in a 5-0 win over Robert Morris … second-straight season-opening shutout for the Raiders … this was Nabhan's first multi-goal game of her Colgate career and first five-point game … Biggar has seven points in her last two season openers.
