HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/25/11)
– The Colgate women's soccer team suffered its first setback of the season when it fell to Connecticut 3-0 on the road.

The Raiders were unable to find the offensive surge they needed to come back from the three-goal deficit in the second half.

The Huskies came out to an attacking start, firing a pair of shots at Colgate's (1-1) net and forcing junior Ashley Walsh to make her first save just two minutes into the game. As the Raiders warmed up, they too began to attack their opponent's goal, but it was Connecticut that held the advantage. As the half continued, neither team could make their mark on the scoreboard until the beginning of the 43rd minute, when Connecticut found the opening goal from a header, to take a 1-0 lead at half time.

The second half started similar to the first, with the Huskies making the first attempt on goal. Colgate then struck back with a few attempts of its own but a corner kick in the 60th minute then led to Connecticut scoring a second goal at the 60:51 mark. Still carrying their scoring momentum, the Huskies then found their third and final goal minutes later to take the 3-0 lead. As the clock wound down, the Raiders were able to find some offensive rhythm with a series of attempts on net but could not find success, resulting in their first loss of the season.

“This certainly was a disappointing loss,” stated head coach Kathy Brawn. "The good news is that we have a talented and determined group of women on this team that will do the work necessary to win games. Ashley Walsh continues to be outstanding in goal and can keep us in any game.”

Walsh had six saves in the game for the Raiders while Connecticut's Jessica Dulski had three.

The team will resume play on Sunday, Aug. 28 when it hosts its second consecutive BIG EAST opponent, Syracuse, at 1 p.m. on Van Doren Field.
