Fitton Takes Home Four Medals at World Deaf Championships

HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/24/11) - Hannah Fitton, a sophomore on the Colgate women's swimming and diving team, competed in the 2011 World Deaf Swimming Championships in Portugal and brought home a silver and three bronze medals during the week. 

She swam for Great Britain and won the silver medal in the 200 individual medley with a time of 2:29.15, which was six seconds better than her prelim time. She ended up reaching out and hit the timing pad .01 second faster than her German competitor for the silver.

Fitton took home the bronze in the 50 free with her lifetime best of 27.66 and outdueled a swimmer from Belarus by .04 seconds to earn third place. Her other bronze came in the 200 free with a swim of 2:13.30. The final third-place finish came in the 400 free where she earned the bronze medal with a time of 4:39.98 and swam seven seconds faster than her prelim time of 4:46.05.

In addition to the medals, she swam to two fifth-place finish in the 100 butterfly and 50 butterfly.
