Women’s Soccer Travels to Connecticut on Thursday

The team will travel to Connecticut for a matchup on Thursday at 7 p.m.

HAMILTON, N.Y. (8/24/11)
– The Colgate women's soccer team will look to carry its scoring momentum into its second game of the season when it travels to Storrs, Conn. for a matchup against BIG EAST powerhouse, Connecticut, on Thursday, Aug. 25 at 7 p.m.

The Raiders are coming off a 5-1 win over Vermont in their season opener on Sunday (Aug. 21). Five different players scored their first goal of the season in the game.

KINTER LEADS OFFENSIVE SURGE
Junior Jillian Kinter leads the team with four points from one goal and two assists. She was named the first BRINE Patriot League Offensive Player of the Week this season after her performance against the Catamounts. Kinter now leads the league in all but one of the offensive statistic categories this week, including points (4), assists (2), goals (1), shots (4), points per game, assists per game, shots per game and goals per game.

RAIDERS' OFFENSE
The Raiders currently lead the league in several categories including points (14), goals (5), assists (4), goals per game, assists per game. The last time the team opened the season with five goals was in 2004 when Colgate defeated Fairfield 5-0 on Van Doren Field.

FRESHMEN STEPPING UP
The newcomers have made an immediate contribution to this year's team, with all five freshmen seeing action in the first game, four of which made their first collegiate start against Vermont.

Midfielder Emily Manoogian was named the BRINE Patriot League Rookie of the Week, for her performance against the Catamounts. She teamed up with classmate Jenna Raepple to score the opening goal for the Raiders, giving them the 1-0 lead at half time. Manoogian's first collegiate goal has her tied for first in the league in goals (1) and goals per game and is also tied for second in shots (3) and shots per game after the opening weekend.

SERIES
Connecticut leads the all-time series against the Colgate, winning all seven meetings. The teams first met in Storrs, Conn. in 1993, and have played all seven matchups in the Huskies' territory.

SCOUTING THE HUSKIES
Connecticut (0-1), which was picked to finish third in the American Division of the BIG EAST Preseason Poll, is coming off a 2-1 loss to Northeastern in its season opener on Friday (Aug. 19).

Junior midfielder, Julie Hubbard, leads the team with the Huskies' sole goal of the season. The team also returns its second leading point leader from the 2010 season, Jessica Shufelt, who finished the season with 15 points from six goals and three assists. In goal the team also returned senior, Jessica Dulski, who had a total of 87 saves, five shutouts and a .784 save percentage last season and had three saves in Connecticut's opening game.

PATRIOT LEAGUE PRESEASON POLL
The team was picked to finish second in the 2011 Patriot League Preseason Poll voted by head coaches and sports information directors in the league. The Raiders, who had 79 points and four first-place votes, were projected to finish behind Army, which had 93 points and 10 first-place votes. Following Colgate was Lehigh with 75 points and two first-place votes.
