HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/9/11) – Lafayette made a season-high 13 three pointers to help guide the Leopards past Colgate 80-65 Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.
Mitch Rolls led the Raiders with 12 points and five assists, while captain
Joe Hoban scored 11.
After Colgate (6-18, 3-6) opened the game with an 8-2 lead through the first two minutes of action, the Leopards responded with a 20-5 run and never looked back. Lafayette made eight three pointers in the first half to take a 41-25 lead into the locker room.
Nick Pascale led the Raiders in the first half with eight points, while Rolls pitched in seven.
Lafayette (10-14, 5-4) opened the second half with a 19-10 run to build its largest lead of the game 60-35 with just over 13 minutes remaining. Colgate narrowed the Leopards lead to 67-51 with nine minutes left, but Lafayette responded by scoring nine of the next 14 points, including seven from Rob Delaney, to lead 76-56 with 3:13 remaining. The Raiders would close the game with a 9-4 run to make the final 80-65.
Lafayette was led by Jared Mintz who scored a game-high 19 points and grabbed six rebounds. Delaney finished with 13 points, while Tony Johnson scored eight points and dished out seven assists.
Colgate will travel American on Saturday, Feb. 12. The game is scheduled to begin at 3:00 p.m. at Bender Arena and can be seen live on Patriot League All-Access.
