CENTER VALLEY, Pa. (2/7/11) – Colgate senior captain
Joe Hoban and freshman
Pat Moore have been named the Patriot League Anaconda Player and Rookie of the Week. Hoban and Moore combined to give the Raiders a sweep of the weekly awards for the first time since Feb. 17, 2003.
Hoban earned his first Patriot League/Anaconda Player of the Week award, and the first for any Colgate student-athlete since the 2007-08 season, after posting a pair of 20-point games in wins for the Raiders. Colgate was the only Patriot League team in action on a weekday, and Hoban and his teammates made the best of it with a 97-86 win over Longwood on Wednesday. Hoban scored 22 points on 8-of-11 shooting overall and 4-of-6 from three-point range in the game, and his 13 assists were three more than any Patriot League player has recorded in a game this season. It was also his first-career double-double.
Back in Patriot League action at Army on Saturday, Hoban scored 20 points on 7-of-12 shooting and pulled down seven rebounds as the Raiders rallied from a double-digit deficit for a 77-71 win. He made 65 percent (15-of-23) from the field and 55 percent (7-of-12) from three-point range in the two games, and averaged 21.0 points, 7.0 assists and 5.5 rebounds for the week. Hoban is Colgate's first Player of the Week winner since Kendall Chones captured the last award of the 2007-08 season.
Moore receives his first Patriot League/Anaconda Rookie of the Week award after averaging 15.5 points and shooting over 65 percent in two wins for the Raiders. Moore did most of his damage in Wednesday's 97-86 win over Longwood, making 10-of-12 shots to finish with a career-high 23 points. He followed that up with eight points in Saturday's 77-71 win over Army. Moore made 13-of-20 shots in the two games and went 4-for-6 from three-point range for the week. He also averaged 2.5 rebounds and 1.5 assists. Moore is Colgate's first Rookie of the Week recipient since teammate
Mitch Rolls claimed the award on Dec. 14, 2009.
The Raiders, who are suddenly one of the hottest teams in the Patriot League with five wins in seven games, will host Lafayette on Wednesday, Feb. 9. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be live on Patriot League All-Access.
