HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/26/11) – The Colgate women's basketball team completed regular-season play on Saturday when it fell to Navy 75-59 on Cotterell Court. The Raiders honored their five seniors before their last collegiate game at home.

Senior Sami Kozlowski led the team in scoring with 14 points and three assists while classmate Krista Moser contributed 12 points and six rebounds. Junior Kelly Korkowski led the team in rebounding with 11 in the game.

Colgate (7-21, 2-12 PL) got on the scoreboard first, going on a 4-0 run to take the early lead. The Mids soon found their rhythm, answering back with a 6-2 run to tie the score at 6-6 at the 15:28 mark. The Raiders then replied with a pair of free throws and by the 13:30 mark, held a 12-9 lead. Both teams struggled to put points on the board over the next three minutes, scoring a total of four points combined, but by the 9:25 mark, Navy had tied the game once again at 13-13. A three-pointer at the 8:55 mark then gave the Mids their first lead of the game 16-13. The next three minutes became a long distance affair, with the teams sinking shots from beyond the arc on both ends of the court as they fought to take control of the game. However, by the 5:50 mark, Navy had extended its lead to 25-19. Feeling the pressure, Colgate continued to play hard, going on a 5-0 run to put the score at 25-24 less than a minute later however, by the end of the first 20 minutes of play, the Mids held a 34-32 advantage.

The Raiders opened scoring in the second half with a jumper to tie the score. Navy answered back with three points from a foul and a basket to take a 37-34 lead. This lead was short lived, with Colgate going on a 6-0 run to reclaim the advantage and increase its lead to three points by the 17:07 mark. The Mids then hit a pair of three pointers to regain the lead and then, over the next five minutes, extended it to eight points to give them the 54-46 lead at the 9:37 mark. Both teams continued to play aggressively but it was Navy that was able to make some solid plays, increasing its scoring margin to 16 points with just 6:20 left in the game. Determined to turn things around, the Raiders found a burst of energy, making some strong defensive plays as they went on a 6-0 run to put the score at 62-52 with less that four minutes left. However, in the end it was the Mids that were able to find a final surge to eventually win the game 75-59, to clinch the regular-season title and the No. 1 seed going into the Patriot League playoffs.

"It was a good test before the Patriot League tournament," stated head coach Pamela Bass. "We will build on the positives, make some adjustments, and look forward to seeing them again next week in the tournament."

Colgate had a 38.3 field goal percentage and was 76.9 percent from the charity stripe.

The Raiders will resume play next weekend when they travel to Annapolis, Md. as the No. 8 seed for a matchup against No. 1 seed Navy in the first round of the 2010-11 Patriot League tournament. The game is scheduled to take place on Saturday, March, 5. The time is yet to be determined.
