Men's Hoops Aims for Season Sweep of Holy Cross

The Colgate University men's basketball team will host Holy Cross on Wednesday (Feb. 23). The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and can be seen live on Patriot League All-Access.

THE SERIES WITH HOLY CROSS
This will be the 70th meeting between Colgate and Holy Cross with the Crusaders leading the all-time series 50-19. Colgate has won the last three matchups including the first meeting this season 79-72 in Worcester on January 27, 2011.

SCOUTING COLGATE (7-20, 4-8 PL)
The Raiders gave first-place Bucknell all it could handle but were ultimately dealt a 77-69 loss at home on Sunday afternoon. Colgate used a 13-2 run for a 28-18 lead midway through the first half, and scored the first five points of the second half to build the advantage back to 10 at 43-33.

The Bison got back in the game with seven straight points, and took the lead for good with eight straight to go up 55-51 with 11:16 left. Colgate would fall behind 69-60 with 4:11 to go, but would not go away easily as a pair of free throws by Mitch Rolls with 35 seconds remaining closed the gap to 71-69. Bucknell came through at the foul line down the stretch to earn the eight-point win.

The Bison swept Colgate for the sixth time in the past seven seasons, and fell to 1-5 at home in Patriot League games. Nick Pascale dominated the paint for Colgate with 18 points, 15 rebounds and four blocks, while Joe Hoban had 16 points and Yaw Gyawu scored 13.

SCOUTING HOLY CROSS (6-20, 5-7 PL)
The Crusaders were dealt yet another crushing loss as they were outlasted by American, 64-60, on Sunday afternoon. The loss dropped Holy Cross to 0-10 on the season and 0-5 in Patriot League action in games decided by four points or less. Its seven Patriot League losses are by a combined 30 points, with the four defeats against American and Bucknell by just 13 total points.

Holy Cross trailed by a small amount for the majority of the game, but went up by five points when a 14-3 run gave them a 44-39 lead with 9:44 to play. American responded with six straight points, and the game stayed within a bucket until the Eagles went up 56-52 with 2:55 left. Holy Cross tied the score at 56 on a layup by Jordan Stevens with 1:38 to play, but American scored the next four points and iced the game at the foul line.

Mike Cavataio led the way with 16 points, while Devin Brown had 13 and Andrew Keister finished with his fifth-straight and 27th-career double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds. Keister became the seventh Patriot Leaguer to record 700 career rebounds, and now stands with 709. Holy Cross hit 17-of-32 shots in the second half to finish 24-of-56 for the game, and only turned it over seven times.

HOBAN STEALING THE SHOW
Senior captain Joe Hoban currently has 45 steals on the season, which ranks third in the Patriot League and 19th all-time at Colgate. Hoban also has 100 steals in his career that sits 17th all-time at Colgate. He is only the 17th Colgate player to record 100 or more steals in a career.

ROLLS SHARING THE ROCK
Sophomore point guard Mitch Rolls has 93 assists on the season, which ranks eighth in the Patriot League. Rolls has handed out 41 assists over the last seven games, while only committing 17 turnovers.

1,000 POINTS AND COUNTING
Junior forward Yaw Gyawu recently became the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000 point club. Gyawu leads Colgate in scoring this season with 12.2 points per game.

CLEANING THE GLASS
Junior center Nick Pascale is one of four student-athletes in the Patriot League to average six or more rebounds and one blocked shot per game. Pascale ranks third in the Patriot League with 1.3 blocked shots and sixth with 6.7 rebounds per game.
