HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/18/10) – The Colgate women's basketball team will return to the road this weekend when it travels to Lewisburg, Pa. for a matchup against Bucknell on Saturday, Feb. 19 at 7 p.m.
Colgate (7-18, 2-9 PL) is coming off a 72-65 setback to Lehigh on Wednesday night. Senior
Tayler Wejnert led the team in scoring with a game-high 22 points and seven rebounds while classmate
Krista Moser had eight points and a team-best 12 rebounds for the Raiders.
PATRIOT LEAGUE PLAY
Colgate is currently sitting in eighth place in the league standings with a 2-9 record. The team has wins over Navy and Lafayette, but suffered two setbacks against Army, American and Lehigh. The Raiders have also lost to Bucknell, Holy Cross and Lafayette. Navy and American are tied for first in the standings both with an 8-3 record.
COURT LEADERS
Wejnert leads the team in scoring with 12.3 points and 5.7 rebounds per game. She is followed by sophomore
Jhazmine Lynch, who has 11.7 points and a league-high 2.4 assists per game. Moser, who averages 6.9 points per game, continues to lead the team in rebounding with a 6.9 average.
TEAM STATS
The Raiders lead the league in three-point field goal percentage (.353) and defensive rebounds (26.7 rebounds per game), and are second in rebounding offense (39.2 rebounds per game).
THE SERIES
Bucknell leads the all-time series, owning a 35 -19 record against the Raiders. Since the teams first met in the 1982-83 season, the Bison have won 19 of the 23 meetings in Lewisburg, Pa., giving Colgate a 4-19 record on the road. This will be the second meeting between the two teams this season with Bucknell winning the first game 76-66 in overtime on Jan. 22 in Hamilton, N.Y.
SCOUTING BUCKNELL
The Bison (8-15, 5-6 PL) are coming off a 46-34 win over Lafayette on Wednesday. Currently sitting in sixth place in the league standings, the team also has wins over Lafayette earlier in the season, Colgate, Army and Holy Cross, and has suffered losses to Navy and American twice, Holy Cross and Lehigh.
Bucknell, which was picked to finish last in the preseason poll, is led by freshman Shelby Romine and senior Joyce Novacek. Romine, who is third in the league in scoring, leads the team with an average of 13.8 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Novacek, who is second in the league in defensive rebounds with 5.4 per game, is averaging 7.2 points and a team-best 7.7 rebounds per game.
PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders were picked to finish tied at sixth with Lafayette in the Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released on Oct. 28. Last season's runner-up, American, was picked to finish first with a total of 93 points and nine first-place votes, which was two points over defending champions, Lehigh, who had 91 points and seven first-place votes. Following the Eagles and Mountain Hawks are Navy (70), Army (59), Holy Cross (42), Colgate (40), Lafayette (40) and Bucknell (31).
