WASHINGTON, D.C. (2/12/11) – Stephen Lumpkins scored a game-high 27 points as American topped Colgate 69-60 Saturday afternoon at Bender Arena.
Sterling Melville led the Raiders with 10 points, while captain
Joe Hoban scored nine.
The Raiders held a 29-28 lead at halftime, but the Eagles opened the second half with a 22-11 run and never looked back. Colgate trimmed the lead to 64-58 with 1:52 remaining after a three pointer from
Pat Moore, but that was as close as the Raiders would get as American scored the five of the final seven points.
Melville finished the day 10 points, two steals and one block, while Hoban had nine points and three steals.
Yaw Gyawu,
Nick Pascale and
Mike Venezia scored eight points apiece, while
Mitch Rolls pitched in seven. Pascale led the Raiders with six rebounds and two blocks.
Colgate (6-19, 3-7) led by as much as five points in the first half 29-24 with 4:18 remaining after a three pointer by Hoban. But American would score the final four points of the half to make the score 29-28.
American (17-8, 7-3) was led by Lumpkins with 27 points and six rebounds, while Vlad Moldoveanu scored 17 and recorded three steals.
Colgate will travel to Lehigh on Wednesday, Feb. 16. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. and will be available live on Patriot League All-Access.
