HEMPSTEAD, N.Y. (12/22/11) – Senior Nick Pascale recorded his second double-double of the season, but it wasn't enough as the Colgate men's basketball team fell to Hofstra 82-59 Thursday night at the Mack Sports Complex.

Pascale finished the game with 13 points, 10 rebounds and one blocked shot, while classmate Sterling Melville scored a team-high 16 points in the loss. Yaw Gyawu scored eight points and grabbed six rebounds, while Mike Venezia pitched in six points, one blocked shot and a steal.

Hofstra (5-7) opened the game with an 17-7 run in the first five minutes of action, before the Raiders responded with an 11-4 run, including a three-pointer by Venezia, to trim the lead to 21-18 with 8:51 left. The Pride answered back with a 7-0 run to regain a 10-point lead 28-18 with 5:21 remaining, before Colgate ended the half with a 16-7 run to trim the lead to 35-34 as both teams entered their locker rooms. Melville led the Raiders in the first half with 10 points, while Pascale scored nine points and grabbed seven rebounds.

Colgate (5-6) looked to continue its run in the second half, but saw the Pride jump out to a 44-38 with 16:27 left. Veneiza then nailed his second three-pointer of the game to make the score 44-41, but that was as close as the Raiders would get as Hofstra closed the game with a 38-18 run to claim its fifth win of the season.

Hofstra was led Mike Moore who scored a game-high 24 points, while Dwan McMillan recorded a double-double with 13 points and 10 assists. The Pride shot 48.3 percent from the field, including 67.9 percent in the second half, while holding the Raiders to 37 percent. The Pride also won the battle on the boards 38-31, while forcing 18 Raiders turnovers that resulted in 20 points.

The Raiders will host Quinnipiac on Wednesday, Dec. 28. The game is scheduled to begin at 7:00 p.m. at Cotterell Court and will be streamed live online by GateTV on Colgate All-Access.
