Women's Swimming & Diving Drops Meet at Buffalo

Erica Derlath paced the Raiders with two first-place finishes.

BUFFALO, N.Y. (11/12/11) –
The Colgate women's swimming and diving team was back on the road on Saturday and dropped its first meet of the season to Buffalo by a 165.5-134.5 score.

Erica Derlath and Lia Kunnapas paced the Raiders with a pair of first place finishes apiece, while Ryan Marynowski also earned an event victory.

Derlath won both distance events with a first-place swim in the 1000 free with a time of 10:29.92 and Melanie Lockard took second with a swim of 10:39.08. Later on in the meet, Derlath returned to the pool and swam a 5:08.86 in the 500 free to win. Both of Kunnapas' victories came in backstroke events. She won by two seconds in the 100 back, clocking in at 57.8 seconds. Kunnapas also got a win in the 200 back, finishing with a time of 2:05.27. Marynowski got her win in the 200 fly, beating Buffalo's Dani Adank by three seconds at 2:03.68.

Colgate took second in both relay events in the meet. The first was the 200-yard medley relay as Kunnapas, Emma Santoro, Jenna Jacoby and Claire Hunter combined to finish at 1:48.05, missing out on the top spot by .15 of a second. In the 200-yard free relay, Marynowski, Meghan Shroyer, Courtney Callahan and Christy Butrus earned a time of 1:38.30 for another second-place finish.

The Raiders will be back in action tomorrow at 12 p.m. at Lineberry Natatorium for the home opener against Niagara.
