BOX SCORE

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/29/11) –
Colgate played over 85 minutes of scoreless field hockey, but it was Bucknell that came out on top with a goal two minutes into the second overtime as the Raiders dropped a 1-0 decision on Senior Day.

Colgate (6-11, 1-4 PL) ends its season with its ninth one-goal game of the year, sixth overtime game and third to go into a second extra frame. Lauren Dittman led the way with five total shots and Amanda DiDomizio pushed aside eight shots, including two huge saves at the end of regulation to keep the game scoreless.

Bucknell (7-10, 3-2 PL) earns the final Patriot League Tournament spot with the win as Mallory Smith scored the gamewinner with Marci Richard earning the assist. Erica Perrine matched DiDomizio save-for-save down the stretch and ended the game with five stops.

The teams looked surprisingly fresh after the first overtime and Bucknell earned the first significant offensive chance. Richard was at the far right side corner of the field and she fired a pass down the goal line. It went by a few Colgate defenders and Smith was able to knock it down in the center of the circle. She then whipped around and put a shot past the outstretched left leg of DiDomizio for the 1-0 gamewinner.

The Raiders had their opportunities at the end of the second half. They earned three-consecutive corners, but Perrine made two stops and one shot was put wide. Early on in the first overtime, DiDomizio made a few great stops on Bucknell to keep the game scoreless. One was on a penalty corner and as she stacked her pads, the ball came high, but she knocked it away with her blocker.

The first half featured a couple of offensive opportunities, but neither team could get on the board. The Raiders had four chances on penalty corners. Adriana Libutti had a great chance on a corner as she received a pass from Dittman and she had wide-open net. Unfortunately, she pushed the shot wide. Bucknell also had its best chance on a corner, but Katie Durkin's shot was too high as it entered the net.

The shot advantage went closely to Bucknell as the Bison had 18 shots to Colgate's 15. The Raiders earned a slight 12-11 advantage in penalty corners.

NOTES: Sarah Hill and Peyton Hawkins finished their Colgate careers this afternoon and were honored prior to the game … the Raiders had a 2-1 record in double overtime games this season … it was the third game decided by a 1-0 score.
