LEWISBURG, Pa. (10/29/11) –
The Colgate women's volleyball team moved to 7-3 on the year in Patriot League play with a 3-0 (25-21, 25-22, 25-17) sweep of Bucknell on Saturday afternoon at Davis Gym.

Colgate (11-14, 7-3 PL) got nine kills apiece from Kaylee Dougherty, Maureen Colligan and Michelle McCarthy, while Diane Seely and Lindsay Young had eight strikes as well. Caitlin Cremin played great with four service aces and nine digs from the backline, while Kaylee Fifer put up 35 helpers in the win.

Bucknell (6-13, 3-7 PL) saw Katie Baumgarten tally nine kills and eight digs. Jessica Serrato posted eight strikes and Kat Tauscher had 22 assists.

“This was a really good road win,” said head coach Ryan Baker. “Catie Cremin was outstanding tonight for us in all of her skill sets. Mo (Maureen) Colligan had a breakout night. The team played cohesively in what can be a tough environment.  They should feel good about how they played.”

Colgate got down early in the first set by a 9-5 score after Baumgartner had had three kills to lead the way for the Bison. The Raiders then went on a 12-4 run to open up a 17-13 lead. Cremin and Lexi Finger both had aces and Dougherty and Young had a pair of kills apiece during the run. Colgate allowed Bucknell to within two at 20-18, but kills by Dougherty and McCarthy gave the Raiders the 25-21 win and a 1-0 lead in the match.

A comeback was needed in the second set as well once the Raiders fell behind 12-8 after the first 20 points. Baumgartner had four kills in the first 12 points for the Bison and Cremin added two aces for Colgate. The Raiders stormed ahead with seven-straight point to make it 15-12 Colgate. Allie Dyer had an ace and Seely had a kill during the run. Bucknell did get the lead back at 20-19, but the Raiders took a 2-0 lead with a 6-2 advantage to close out the set at 25-22.

The Raiders left no doubt in the third set as they opened up a 20-9 lead. Colgate then got stuck for a few points, allowing Bucknell to get back in the set. Young finally gave Colgate the 25-17 win in the set and a 3-0 sweep. The four top hitters for the Raiders had three kills in the set that led to the win.

The Raiders finished with a .272 hitting percentage with 46 kills on 103 attacks. Colgate held the Bison to a .173 hitting percentage.

Colgate will be back on the road next weekend with a visit to Lehigh and Lafayette.
