WASHINGTON, D.C. (10/15/11) – The Colgate field hockey team was down 1-0 after the first 35 minutes, but American scored seven times in the second half as the Raiders fell to the Eagles, 8-1, on Saturday afternoon at Jacobs Field.
Colgate (5-9, 0-3 PL) got its lone goal from
Meredith Gibson, which was her first collegiate goal.
Amanda DiDomizio made five saves in 61 minutes of action and took the loss, while
Caitlin Zolet saw nine minutes in relief and pushed aside two shots.
American (7-5, 3-0 PL) received two goals from Tatum Dyer, while the Eagles had a total of seven different goal scorers. Dyer also added two helpers for a total of six points on the day. Grace Wilson had a three-point day with a goal and an assist. Ashley Dalisera got the win, making four stops.
The Raiders were outshot 8-1 in the first half, but played good enough defense to keep it a one-goal game. Gina Hofmann tallied the lone goal of the half on a penalty corner with assists to Tatum and Natalie Ellenberger. It was on one of three American penalty corners in the half. Colgate did not earn a corner in the opening half.
The Eagles then scored four-straight goals to open the second half. Jaclyn Anspach and Alex McMackin tallied a goal apiece in the first 10 minutes to increase the American lead to 3-0. Canon Hirschler and Dyer then added unassisted strikes with Hirschler's coming with 18:18 left in the game and then Dyer scoring three minutes later.
Gibson stopped the run by the Eagles with her first collegiate goal, coming unassisted. She broke into the circle from the right side and beat Dalisera to inside post to make it 5-1. American then finished the game with three goals in the final nine minutes to close the game out at 8-1.
American outshot 28-5 in the game, including a 20-4 advantage in the second half. Colgate earned five penalty corners to 10 for the Eagles.
Colgate will be back in action next weekend at Holy Cross for noon start on Oct. 22.
