HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/22/11) – The Colgate women's basketball dropped its fourth Patriot League game on Saturday afternoon when it fell to Bucknell 76-66 in overtime on Cotterell Court. Despite holding a 31-26 lead at half time, the Raiders could not secure the win, suffering their third overtime loss of the season.

Colgate (6-13, 1-4 PL) came out to an explosive start with Wejnert hitting two three-pointers along with the team making some strong defensive plays, to put the score at 6-0 in the opening minutes. As the half progressed, Bucknell was finally able find its first basket but the Raiders then answered back with a 10-2 run to put the score at 16-4 at the 14:47 mark. Colgate continued to attack the basket aggressively, extending the scoring margin to 13 points midway through the half. The Bison eventually began to find their rhythm, making some important baskets, and by the 3:26 mark had reduced the score to 25-20. But as the half came to a close, the Raiders were able to maintain their lead, ending the first 20 minutes of play with a 31-26 advantage.
In the second half both teams started off strong as they both attempted to score the first basket. Bucknell got on the board first but the Raiders replied soon after to put the score at 33-28. The teams continued to exchange baskets but it was the Bison that were the more productive team, eventually tying the score at 38-38 after a pair of free throws at the 13:19 mark. Both teams picked up the pace, both hungry for their second league win. However, as the game progressed it was Bucknell that took the lead with a three-pointer at the 11:32 mark. Sami Kozlowski hit a three-pointer from downtown at the buzzer, with the score at 59-56, to send the game into overtime.
Feeling cheated, Bucknell came out hard in the final five minutes of play, going on a 9-0 run over the first four minutes to take the 68-59 advantage. The Raiders attempted to make a comeback, hitting a three-pointer followed by two free throws shortly after. However, despite their best attempts, they could not make up the nine-point deficit, eventually falling to the Bison 76-66.
“We showed a lot of growth today,” stated head coach
Pamela Bass. “However, we still need to control the controllables. Basketball is a game of runs and unfortunately they got us in overtime.
Colgate had a 42.0 field goal percentage and were 30-of-35 from the line.
The Raiders will resume play next week when they host Patriot League opponent, Holy Cross, on Wednesday, Jan. 26 at 7 p.m. on Cotterell. Court.
