Women’s Basketball Hosts Bucknell on Saturday

Colgate will look to improve its 1-3 league record against Bucknell

HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/21/10) – The Colgate women's basketball team will return to Cotterell Court this weekend when it hosts Bucknell on Saturday, Jan. 22 at 2 p.m. This will be the Raiders' fifth Patriot League game and third one at home.

Colgate (6-12, 1-3 PL) is coming off a 75-57 setback to Lehigh on Wednesday night. Senior Tayler Wejnert led the team in scoring with 15 points and five rebounds while sophomore Jhazmine Lynch had 11 points and three steals. Senior Krista Moser led the team in rebounds with seven, five of which were defensive.

COURT LEADERS
Lynch continues to lead the team with 13.6 points and a league-high 2.8 steals per game. She is followed by Wejnert who is averaging 11.8 points and 4.9 rebounds while Moser, who averages 7.4 points per game, leads the team in rebounds with a 7.2 average.

TEAM STATS

The Raiders lead the league in defensive rebounds (27.4 rebounds per game) and three-point field goal percentage (.355). The team is also second in the league in scoring offense (62.1 points per game), field goal percentage (.394) and rebounding offense (39.7 rebounds per game).

THE SERIES
Bucknell leads the all-time series, owning a 34 -19 record against the Raiders. Since the teams first met in the 1982-83 season, the Bison have won 13 of the 23 meetings on Cotterell Court, giving Colgate a 10-13 record at home. Last season the Raiders went 1-1 against Bucknell, winning the last meeting on 62-58 at home on Feb. 20.

SCOUTING BUCKNELL

The Bison (4-12, 1-3 PL) is coming off a 57-49 win over Lafayette on Wednesday and a 57-47 loss to Holy Cross last weekend. Like Colgate, the team is 1-3 in league play with its other losses coming against American and Navy.

Bucknell, which was picked to finish last in the preseason poll, is led by freshman Shelby Romine and senior Joyce Novacek. Romine, who is second in the league in scoring, leads the team with an average of 14.4 points and 3.5 rebounds per game. Novacek leads the league in defensive rebounds with 6.2 per game while averaging 8.0 points and a team-best 8.6 rebounds per game.

PRESEASON POLL
The Raiders were picked to finish tied at sixth with Lafayette in the Patriot League Preseason Poll that was released on Oct. 28. Last season's runner-up, American, was picked to finish first with a total of 93 points and nine first-place votes, which was two points over defending champions, Lehigh, who had 91 points and seven first-place votes. Following the Eagles and Mountain Hawks are Navy (70), Army (59), Holy Cross (42), Colgate (40), Lafayette (40) and Bucknell (31).

1,000-POINT CLUB
Sami Kozlowski, who has started every game in her collegiate career, is now just 19 points short of reaching the 1,000 career-point mark. Ending the 2009-10 season as the Raiders' leading scorer, she has already accumulated 143 points this season.

PAM'S WORKOUT PLAN
Head coach Pamela Bass has made a deal with her team that is bound to have her in the best shape of her life. For every charge her team takes during a game, she will do one push-up on the court right after the foul is called.
