SCOUTING COLGATE (1-14, 0-2 PL)
The Raiders are coming off a 75-64 loss at Lafayette on Wednesday (Jan. 12) and have opened league play 0-2 for the first time since 2002.

Colgate forced 19 Lafayette turnovers, but it wasn't enough to overcome a 5-for-19 night from three-point range. Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) had a solid effort with 18 points on 9-of-11 from the field, while Sterling Melville (Plano, Texas) scored a career-high 13 while making all four of his field goals and free throw attempts. Mike Venezia (Westfield, N.J.) scored three points in his return to the lineup.

Gyawu and Joe Hoban (West Chester, Pa.) lead Colgate in scoring averaging 12.5 and 9.3 points per game, respectively. Nick Pascale (DeWitt, N.Y.) is the leader on the boards with 6.1 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING AMERICAN (11-6, 1-1 PL)
The Eagles enter Saturday's game 11-6 overall and 1-1 in league play after dropping a 75-60 contest to Bucknell on Wednesday (Jan. 12) at Bender Arena.

The Bison led from start to finish, opening the game with a 21-6 lead in the first 11 minutes. American chipped the advantage to 37-25 by halftime, but Bucknell came out with the first six points of the second half to build the lead to 18. The lead stayed in double digits for the rest of the game, with the Bison going up by as many as 22 points before taking the 75-60 win.

American's Troy Brewer and Charles Hinkle scored 12 points apiece, while Nick Hendra added 10. Vlad Moldoveanu, the Patriot League's leading scorer, was held to just seven points on 3-of-12 from the field.

CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Junior forward Yaw Gyawu leads Colgate in scoring this season with 12.5 points per game and is closing in on 1,000 points in his career. Gyawu currently has 910 points, 90 away from becoming the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000-point club.

THE DAVIS FILE
Head coach Emmett Davis (St. Lawrence, 1984) is in his 13th year in charge at Colgate, owning the most wins in school history with 159.

During coach Davis' decade long tenure, the Colgate program has been a model of consistency. In nine of his 12 seasons, Davis has led the Raiders to either the upper division of the Patriot League standings or advanced the team to the semifinals or finals of the conference tournament. From 2001-2004 the Raiders finished with three consecutive regular season winning records (2001-02…17-10, 2002-03…14-13, and 2003-04…14-13) and in 2007-08 the Raiders tied the school record for wins in a season with 18.

Davis reached another career milestone in November 2005, as Colgate defeated Matt Doherty's Florida Atlantic team 78-74 earning coach Davis his 100th career victory making him just the fifth coach in school history to win 100 games.
