SCOUTING COLGATE (1-13, 0-1 PL)
The Raiders are coming off a 73-66 loss to Army to open league play on Saturday (Jan. 8). The loss snapped a six game winning streak for Colgate in league openers against Army and was the first league opening loss for the Raiders since the 2003-04 season.

After trailing by as much as 17 in the second half Colgate made a 12-0 run to trim the Black Knights lead to 61-59 with 3:57 remaining. Mitch Rolls (Coffeyville, Kan.), who didn't play in the first half, sparked the run with a pair of three pointers, while Sterling Melville (Plano, Texas) pitched in five points including a thunderous dunk that brought the crowd to its feet. However after a media timeout Army's Julian Simmons made a three pointer and was fouled in the act of doing so to complete a four-point play to give the Black Knights the lead for good 65-59.

Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) finished the day with 16 points and seven rebounds to lead the Raiders, while Joe Hoban (West Chester, Pa.) pitched in 14 points and four steals. Rolls and Melville each score nine points, while junior center Nick Pascale (DeWitt, N.Y.) grabbed a team-high eight rebounds.

Gyawu and Hoban lead Colgate in scoring averaging 12.1 and 9.6 points per game, respectively. Pascale is the leader on the boards with 6.1 rebounds per game.

SCOUTING LAFAYETTE (5-11, 0-1 PL)
The Leopards enter Wednesday's game 5-11 overall and 0-1 in league play after dropping a 70-65 contest to Holy cross on Saturday (Jan. 8) at the Hart Center. Lafayette led by as much as 13 in the second half, but couldn't maintain it as the Crusaders climbed their way back before taking the lead for good with a three pointer with 47 seconds remaining.

Lafayette has three players that average double digits in scoring led by Jared Mintz with 15.8 points per game, which ranks fourth in the Patriot League. The Leopards are also receiving 12.9 points per game from Jim Mower and 11.9 from Ryan Willen. Mintz also leads the team with 5.7 rebounds per game.

CLOSING IN ON 1,000
Junior forward Yaw Gyawu leads Colgate in scoring this season with 12.1 points per game and is closing in on 1,000 points in his career. Gyawu currently has 892 points, 108 away from becoming the 28th player in school history to join the 1,000 point club.

THE DAVIS FILE
Head coach Emmett Davis (St. Lawrence, 1984) is in his 13th year in charge at Colgate, owning the most wins in school history with 159.

During coach Davis' decade long tenure, the Colgate program has been a model of consistency. In nine of his 12 seasons, Davis has led the Raiders to either the upper division of the Patriot League standings or advanced the team to the semifinals or finals of the conference tournament. From 2001-2004 the Raiders finished with three consecutive regular season winning records (2001-02…17-10, 2002-03…14-13, and 2003-04…14-13) and in 2007-08 the Raiders tied the school record for wins in a season with 18.

Davis reached another career milestone in November 2005, as Colgate defeated Matt Doherty's Florida Atlantic team 78-74 earning coach Davis his 100th career victory making him just the fifth coach in school history to win 100 games.
