Women’s Soccer Faces Navy in Patriot League Opener

Colgate has a record of 3-7
HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/30/10) - The women's soccer team will play its first Patriot League game of the season against Navy on Friday, Oct. 1 at 7 p.m. on Van Doren Field. Colgate will then host non-conference opponent Cornell on Sunday, Oct. 3 at 1 p.m.

The Raiders (3-7) are coming off a tough 2-1 double-overtime loss to Canisius on the road this past weekend. Freshman midfielder Christy Patterson (Kenilworth, Ill.) scored the only goal for the Raiders.

STATISTIC LEADERS

Sophomore forward Jillian Kinter (Newburyport, Mass.) leads the team in scoring with three goals and in points (6), and is third in the league in shots (28) and shots per game (2.8). Junior midfielder Alyssa Manoogian (Peabody, Mass.) and senior forward Anna Baldwin (Woodbury, Conn.) are tied at second with two goals and one assist apiece along with junior midfielder Maddie Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.) who also has five points off one goal and three assists.

Sophomore goalkeeper Ashley Walsh (Baldwinsville, N.Y.) was named the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC) Defensive Player of the Week and the BRINE Goalkeeper of the Week last week. She continues to lead the league in total saves with 68 and saves per game with 6.8. Walsh has been the leader in both categories since the beginning of the season.

SCOUTING NAVY

The Midshipmen (6-5-1) are on a two-game winning streak with wins against Duquesne and regionally-ranked Penn last weekend. The team's other four wins were against VMI, Manhattan, George Mason and Mount St. Mary's while its five losses were to South Carolina State, Texas, Texas State, Charleston Southern and James Madison.

Navy is led by senior forward Carissa Youker who was recently named the BRINE Offensive Player of the Week for her four-point performance last week. Youker has 13 points off five goals and three assists, and is tied for third in the Patriot League in points and goals.

SCOUTING CORNELL
The Big Red (4-4) is coming off a 1-1 weekend with a win against Manhattan and a loss against Columbia last weekend. Cornell's other wins were against Binghamton, Bucknell and Delaware State and its four losses were to Delaware, St. Bonaventure, Seton Hall and Columbia.

Cornell is led by junior forward Brook Chang and sophomore forward Maneesha Chitanvis. Chang leads the team in points (7) off three goals and one assist while Chitanvis has six points off two goals and two assists.
