BUFFALO, N.Y. (9/26.10)
– The Colgate women's soccer team suffered its first double-overtime setback this season when it lost to Canisius 2-1 on Sunday afternoon. Despite outshooting the Golden Griffins 31-18, the Raiders (3-7) could not find the goal they needed to win the game.

In the first half Colgate came out strong, attacking the Golden Griffins net and outshooting its opponent 12-4. In the second half both teams began to play more aggressively. Canisius got on the scoreboard first in the 60th minute to take the 1-0 lead midway through the second half. The Raiders returned the favor just ten minutes later when freshman midfielder Christy Patterson (Kenilworth, Ill.) drove the ball into the top corner of the goal from 30 yards away to tie the score at 1-1, resulting in the Raiders first overtime game of the season.

Colgate continued to search for a second goal in overtime as it created numerous opportunities. However, it was Canisius that found the back of the net in the final minute of the second double-overtime period to win the game 2-1.

“While there were some bright spots today, it is certainly a disappointing loss,” stated head coach Kathy Brawn. “Credit must be given to Canisius for its determination to win. We are now focused on preparing for our home game against Navy this Friday night.”

The team will open conference play on Friday, Oct. 1 when it hosts Patriot League opponent, Navy, at 7 p.m. on Van Doren Field.
