HAMILTON, N.Y. (11/24/10) – The Colgate women's basketball team will travel to Brooklyn, N.Y. to take part in the Long Island University Turkey Classic this weekend. The Raiders will first play Boston University on Friday, Nov 26 at 4 p.m. and depending on the result, will play either McNeese State or LIU in the consolation or championship game on Saturday, Nov. 27 at 2 or 4 p.m.
Colgate (2-3) is coming off an 85-72 win over Wagner on Tuesday night. Sophomore
Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) led the team with a career and game-high 29 points and four steals while senior
Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) contributed 21 points and six rebounds for the Raiders.
COURT LEADERS
Lynch, who received an honorable mention from the Patriot League for her performance last week, continues to lead the team, averaging 17.2 points per game and 3.2 rebounds. She is followed by Wejnert who has an average of 11.2 points and 3.6 rebounds per game. Senior
Krista Moser (Cedar Rapids, Iowa) leads the team in rebounds with a total of 40 for an 8.0 average.
CAREER BESTS
Three players have already set career-highs in the first four games of the season. Lynch set a career record in points with 29 against Wagner, surpassing her previous record of 25 against RID in 2009. She also improved her steals record to four this season against three opponents.
Junior
Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) recorded a career-high 19 points against Siena, surpassing her previous record of 16 points. She also matched her career-high in rebounds (12), which she first accomplished in the 2008-09 season against Bryant.
Wejnert also improved her career mark in steals when she recorded three against NJIT in the Colgate's home opener.
SERIES
Boston University leads the all-time series with the Raiders 4-1. The teams first met in the 1989-90 season during which they played each other three times, first at the La Salle Invitational, then in Boston, Mass. and finally on Cotterell Court. Colgate's only win was in the third game at home that season, when the Raiders defeated BU 69-64. The teams last met in the 1999-00 season when Colgate fell to the Terriers 78-59 on the road.
The Raiders lead the all-time series with LIU, owning a 6-3 record. The teams first met in the 1986-87 season when Colgate defeated the Blackbirds 70-60 on the road. Colgate has a 2-2 away record against LIU, losing the most recent meeting 76-66 on the road in the 2004-05 season.
McNeese State and Colgate have only met once, with the Raiders leading the series 1-0. The teams' first and only meeting was in the 2005-06 season at the Vanderbilt Tournament when Colgate defeated the Cowgirls 82-78.
SCOUTING BOSTON UNIVERSITY
The Terriers (1-3) are coming off a 69-58 loss to Harvard on Tuesday night. The team, which was picked to finish first in the America East conference poll, has also had two losses to Boston College and No. 19 Texas, with its only win coming against Yale.
BU is led by America East preseason-all conference selections junior Alex Young, and sophomore Mo Moran as well as senior Kerry Cashman. Young leads the team, averaging 18.5 points and four rebounds per game while Moran is second with nine points. Cashman leads the team in rebounds, averaging 9.3 per game and is tied for second with a nine point average.
SCOUTING LIU
The Blackbirds (2-1) are coming off a 90-36 loss to Syracuse on Monday night, ending its two-game winning streak. Before facing the Orange, the team had wins against Lafayette and Columbia.
The team, which was selected to finish first in the Northeast Conference, is led by senior Chelsi Johnson and junior Ashley Palmer. Johnson leads the team in points, averaging 12.7 points and six rebounds per game while Palmer is second with an average of 10.7 points and a team-high 9.7 rebounds per game.
SCOUTING MCNEESE STATE
The Cowgirls (2-2) are coming off a 69-53 loss to Alabama on Tuesday night. The team, which was picked to finish fifth in the Southland Conference preseason poll, also has wins against New Orleans and Texas College and a loss to Southern Mississippi.
McNeese State is led by sophomore Ashlyn Baggett and senior Klara Johnson. Baggett leads the team in points, averaging 17.5 per game while Johnson leads the team in rebounds with an average of 6.8 per game.
