Women’s Volleyball Continues Road Swing at Bucknell

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/7/10) –
The Colgate women's volleyball team jumps back into Patriot League play on Friday night with a trip to Bucknell for a 7 p.m. start.

LAST TIME OUT

Colgate played its longest set of the season, combining with Albany for 64 points in the first game, but the Raiders dropped their final non-conference game of the season by a 3-1 score. Colgate was led by senior captain Logan Keala (Kaneohe, Hawaii), who recorded a season-high 17 kills and also posted 16 digs on the night. Junior Maureen Colligan (Odessa, Fla.) added 13 kills and two blocks, while rookie Kaylee Fifer (Lantana, Texas) put up 24 assists and junior Blaire Safir (Oakland, Calif.) registered 23 helpers of her own.

Senior captain Devon Applegate (Davidson, N.C.) recorded 22 digs, making it 20-plus in her last three starts. Freshmen Caitlin Cremin (Naperville, Ill.) and Allie Dyer (Portland, Ore.) each had great performances on the back line with 15 and 11 digs, respectively. For Cremin, it was a season high and Dyer tied her seasons best.

MOVING UP THE STATISTICAL CHARTS
The women continue to move up in some statistical categories among Patriot League teams. The Raiders are now second behind American in hitting percentage at .169. The Eagles have been leading the league right from the start and currently have a .290 hitting percentage. Colgate is third in kills with 857 this season and a average of 11.74 per set. The Raiders have moved up in digs as well with 1, 011 on the year for fourth in the lead and an average of 13.85 for fifth. Applegate has jumped to fourth in the league in digs with an average of 3.71 per set, while Fifer is fourth in assists with 421 and an average of 6.1 per game.

OFF TO A FAMILIAR START
The Raiders are off to a 3-1 conference start, which the team has done three out of the last four years. Last year, Colgate got a huge 3-1 win over American to reach the 3-1 mark to begin the Patriot League season.

UPCOMING MILESTONE
With 10 wins so far this season, head coach Ryan Baker now has 93 career victories to put him seven away from 100 in his career. He has 71 wins while with the Raiders. He was at Clarkson for a season prior to Colgate and posted a 22-11 record. With his 71 wins with the program he now has the second most wins by a Colgate coach. He is trailing only Janet Little, who had 385 wins in her 17 seasons.

SCOUTING THE BISON

Bucknell enters Friday nights contest with a 5-11 record overall and a 3-1 conference mark. The Bison has won three straight league games with wins over Navy, Lafayette and Lehigh, after falling to American in its Patriot League opener. Prior to the win streak, Bucknell had dropped five-consecutive games.

Heidi Camp leads the way with 123 kills on 310 total attacks with 48 errors. She is second in blocks with 49 total and first with 44 assisted. Ragin Jackson is the leader in blocks with 53, including 14 solo. Jackson is also tied for second on the team in kills with Kyleigh McAhren as both have earned 78 kills. Rachel Jackson is the top assist-getter for the Bison with 245 on the season, while Leylin Marroguin is the leader in digs with 135.

Colgate leads the series with a 26-21 record with its travel partner. The two first met in 1984 with the Raiders coming away with a 3-2 win at home. Last season, Colgate swept the season series, allowing Bucknell just one set win in the two meetings.
