HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/23/10)
– Despite making a magnificent three-goal comeback in the last two periods of the game, the women's hockey team (2-4) could not hold off Wayne State, suffering its second setback of the weekend 5-3 on Saturday afternoon.

The game was part of a two-game set in which the Warriors swept the series with a 4-0 win on Friday before winning again today.

Wayne State took the early lead on Colgate with a power play goal at the 8:04 mark from Alyssa Baldin. The team then found the net twice more in the final five minutes of the first period, courtesy of Veronique Lamaree-Paquette and Gina Buquet, to end the period with a 3-0 lead.

In the second period the Raiders answered back, scoring the only goal of the period at the 10:29 mark when sophomore Brittany Phillips (Lauder, Man.) picked up the puck, skated around the goal and passed it up to freshman Taylor Volpe (Tustin, Calif.) who hammered it past the Warriors' goaltender. It was her first collegiate goal.

Colgate then came back and scored two back-to-back goals at the 10:43 and 12:34 marks to even the game at 3-3 midway through the third period. Phillips scored the first goal off an assist from junior Amanda Kirwan (Mississauga, Ont.) and sophomore Jenna Klynstra (Edmonton, Alta.) scored the second goal with assists from Kirwan and senior Hannah Milan (Great Barrington, Mass.). However, in the final minutes of the game, Wayne State was able to convert two power play goals from Jill Szandik and Julie Ingratta to win the game 5-3.

Junior goaltender Kimberly Sass (East Amherst, N.Y.) had 24 saves in the game.

The Raiders will hit the road for the first time this season next weekend when they face Princeton on Friday, Oct. 29 at 7 p.m. in Princeton, N.J. followed by Quinnipiac on Saturday, Oct. 30 at 4 p.m. in Hamden, Conn.
