HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/20/10) – The Colgate women's soccer team will host two Patriot League opponents this weekend in its last two home games of the season. The Raiders (5-10) will face Holy Cross first on Friday, Oct. 22 at 7 p.m. followed by Army on Sunday, Oct. 24 at 1 p.m. on Van Doren Field.
The team improved its conference mark to 2-2 on Sunday (Oct. 17) when it defeated American 2-1 in Washington D.C. Sophomore forward
Jillian Kinter (Newburyport, Mass.) scored both goals for the Raiders.
Colgate is currently fifth in the league's standings with six points, behind Navy who also has six points, Army (8), Bucknell (9) and Lehigh (9). Two wins this weekend would help put the defending champions on track to winning another Patriot League title.
OFFENSIVE PLAYER OF THE WEEK
Kinter was named the BRINE Offensive Player of the Week by the Patriot League earlier this week after her four-point performance against American last weekend. She scored both goals in the Raiders' 2-1 conference win over the Eagles.
POINT LEADERS
Kinter continues to lead the team in scoring with five goals and is tied for first in points (11). Junior midfielder
Alyssa Manoogian (Peabody, Mass.) also has 11 points off four goals and three assists while senior forward
Anna Baldwin (Woodbury, Conn.) and junior midfielder
Maddie Malone (Glen Ridge, N.J.) are tied at third with six points each.
PRESEASON POLL
The team was picked to finish first in the 2010 Patriot League preseason poll voted by head coaches and sports information directors in the league. The defending 2009 Patriot League champion was projected to finish above Navy and Bucknell after completing a successful 2009 season with an overall record of 11-7-3 and a league record of 5-1-1.
THE SERIES
Colgate leads both series, owning a 20-7-2 record against Holy Cross and a 25-9-1 record with Army. The last time the Raiders met both teams was in 2009 when Colgate defeated Holy Cross 2-1 on Oct. 22 followed by another 2-1 win against Army on Oct. 25.
SCOUTING HOLY CROSS
The Crusaders (3-9-2) are on a five-game losing streak with their most recent losses coming to Yale on Tuesday (Oct. 19) and Lehigh last weekend. The team, which has only defeated Rhode Island, Quinnipiac and Rider this season, is 0-3-1 in league play and will be looking for its first win against the Raiders.
Holy Cross is led by senior forward Shelby Stand who has 16 points off six goals and four assists this season. She leads the league in shots (64), shots per game (4.92) and points per game (1.23), and is second in points (16), goals (6), goals per game (0.46), and assists per game (0.31).
SCOUTING ARMY
The Black Knights (11-3-2) are on a five-game unbeaten streak with three 1-0 wins against Lehigh, UPenn and Navy, and two 0-0 ties with American and Lafayette. The team, which has not allowed a goal in its last five games, is currently third in the league standings with a 2-0-2 record in conference play.
Army is led by freshman midfielder/forward Kim An who has 18 points off eight goals and two assists this season. She leads the league in points (18), goals (8) and goals per game (.50), and is tied for first in game-winning goals (4). An has received four weekly honors this season and was most recently named the BRINE Rookie of the Week two weeks ago.
