Lynch Scores 19 as Raiders Fall at Army

  The Colgate women's basketball team fell in their Patriot League opener, dropping a close decision 63-57 to Army on Saturday evening at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y. The loss drops the Raiders to 5-10 overall and 0-1 in the conference, while the Black Knights improve to 7-8 overall and 1-0 in the league.

Freshman Jhazmine Lynch (San Diego, Calif.) scored a career-high 19 points and Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) added 11 points and five rebounds in a game that featured nine ties and eight lead changes.

Neither team was able to gain more than a six point lead throughout the first half with the two squads trading baskets during the final minutes of the half. Lynch hit a three-pointer with just over five minutes remaining in the half followed by a lay-up from Oakes to give the Raiders a 26-24 lead with 5:08 on the clock. Army's Erin Anthony tied the game at 26 with two free throws, but Colgate junior Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) put in two of her own on the other end of the court with to give the Raiders a 28-26 advantage to head into the half-time break.

The Black Knights opened the second half by going on a 13-3 run to gain a seven point lead, 39-32, with 12:38 remaining in the game. The Raiders began to inch their way back, gaining a one point lead after Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) connected on a shot from behind the arc to make it 45-44 with just over six minutes left on the clock. With 3:44 left on the clock the Raiders tied the game at 49 with a basket from Oakes, but Army went on an 11-0 run to gain the advantage, 60-49 with just 52 remaining in the game. Oakes added five more points in the final minute but the Black Knights held on for the 63-57 win.

Erin Anthony led all scorers with 20 points and 12 rebounds for Army, followed by Jessie Coiffard with 19 points.

The Raiders will be back in action this Wednesday, Jan. 13 when they take on Lafayette at 7 p.m. in Easton, Pa.
