Colgate Swimmers Host Home Opener Versus Bucknell

Sat., Jan. 9 – vs. Bucknell 1 p.m. (Lineberry Natatorium)

 

The Colgate men's and women's swimming & diving teams return to action for the first time since late November as they host Patriot League rival Bucknell, Saturday at Lineberry Natatorium in their home opener. The meet begins at 1 p.m.

 

EVENTS

200 Medley Relay, 1650 Free, 200 Free, 100 Back, 100 Breast, 200 Fly, 50 Free, 1-Meter Diving, 100 Free, 200 Back, 200 Breast, 500 Free, 100 Fly, 3-Meter Diving, 400 IM, 400 Free Relay.

 

RECORDS

The Raider men will be in search of their first victory of the season after dropping decisions to Lehigh, Boston College, Boston U, and Dartmouth. The Colgate women sport a 2-3 record on the year with victories over Boston College and Dartmouth and losses to Penn State, West Virginia and Boston U. The Colgate women will also be looking to stretch their home pool win streak to nine. The last time the Raiders suffered defeat at Lineberry was on October 12, 2007 versus Syracuse.

 

LAST TIME OUT

The Colgate women claimed 15 of 16 victories and posted top three finishes in four races in a convincing 203-94 win at Dartmouth, November 22.  Emma Santoro and Caren Guyett were both quadruple winners, while Kim Siembieda claimed three events.  Colgate swept the top three places in the 1650 free, 200 free, 200 breast, and 200 fly.  Kim Pilka won both diving events.

 

The Raider men fell 194-83 to Big Green. Casey Powers claimed the lone individual victory for Colgate as the sophomore led a one-two-three sweep in the 1650 free. The Raiders' other two wins came in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.

 

LAST TIME VERSUS BUCKNELL

Women: Colgate claimed 13 of 16 events; took the top two places in six races and claimed the top three in two more in a convincing 191.5-106.5 victory over the Bison, January 10, 2009 at Kinney Natatorium. The Raiders flexed their muscles in back-to-back races by taking first, second and third place points in the 500 free and 100 fly. Karen Guyett and Erin McGraw led the sweeps respectively. Colgate took first and second in the 1650 free, 200 free, 200 fly, 100 free, 200 back, and 400 IM.

 

Men: The Raiders claimed four first places in a 188-96 loss to the Bison on January 10 in Lewisburg, Pa.  Teddy Perley was the lone double winner.  The Harrison, N.Y. product won the 100 breast and then teamed with Pat White, Costas Hadjipateras, and Tyler Coolman to win the 400 free relay. The other two first place efforts came from Trevor Healy in the 400 IM and Joe McGovern in three-meter diving.

 

NEXT UP

Colgate hosts archrival Cornell, January 16 at Lineberry Natatorium. The meet is slated for a 1 p.m. start.
