Roemer, Rolls Register Career-Highs in 100-91 Loss at Navy

-- Jordan Sugars had 34 points and nine rebounds to lead Navy to a 100-91 win over Colgate at Alumni Hall on Saturday night.

Chris Harris pitched in 25 points, and O.J. Avworo contributed 14 points and 10 assists for the Midshipmen (10-12, 4-3). 

For Colgate, senior guard Kyle Roemer (Martinez, Calif.) scored 27 of his 31 points in the second half to go along with a career-high 11 rebounds. Freshman point guard Mitch Rolls (Coffeyville, Kan.) hit five three-pointers en route to 15 points and seven assists, both career-high numbers for Rolls.
   
The Raiders trailed 78-63 with 7:29 remaining before going on a 10-0 run in just 85 seconds to cut Navy's lead to five. Roemer would later convert on a three-point play to bring Colgate within 83-80 at the 4:19 mark. Sugars responded with a three-pointer, that was countered by a Roemer layup. After Roemer's shot, Sugars again connected from beyond the arc to give Navy an 89-82 lead with 3:19 left.
   
Senior forward Ben Jonson (Dallas, Texas) would hit a three-pointer with a minute-and-a-half remaining to bring Colgate within five points at 93-88, but Navy made 7-of-8 free throws down the stretch.
   
Colgate led 5-3 early after a Rolls three-pointer before Navy countered with a 19-6 run to take a 22-11 lead, hitting four three-pointers in that stretch. The Midshipmen held a double-digit lead throughout much of the first half after the run. Rolls hit another three-pointer with 41 seconds left in the first half to bring Colgate within seven points, but Romeo Garcia countered with one of his own to give Navy a 46-36 halftime lead.
   
Elsewhere in the box score, sophomore Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) scored 15 points, while Jonson and sophomore forward Sterling Melville (Plano, Texas) each had 12. For Melville, the 12 points were a career-high.
   
Colgate (6-15, 2-5) will travel to West Point, N.Y. to face Army on Sunday (Feb. 7) at noon. The game can be seen on CBS College Sports.
