HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/23/10)
-- Colgate held a 40-29 halftime lead but could not hold on as Bucknell defeated the Raiders 62-61 on Saturday afternoon in a Patriot League contest.

G.W. Boon (17) and Mike Muscala (16) combined for 33 points off the bench for the Bison, while senior guard Kyle Roemer (Martinez, Calif.) led all scorers with 19 points. Sophomore forward Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) pitched in 14 points and eight boards, while sophomore center Nick Pascale (DeWitt, N.Y.) and senior forward Ben Jonson (Dallas, Texas) each scored eight.

Muscala hit a layup to give Bucknell a 62-61 lead with just over two minutes remaining, which doubled as both the final score and the Bison's only lead of the game. With 14 seconds remaining, Gyawu rebounded a three-point miss from Muscala and drove down the court, Darryl Shazier fouled him with Bucknell still under the limit. After a timeout, Colgate had possession of the ball with ten seconds left. With time running out, Jonson could not get a shot off as Bucknell defenders swarmed him, and the Bison completed the comeback.

Colgate began the game with a 9-1 run. Gyawu scored four points in that stretch and sophomore guard Anthony Hill (Plano, Texas) knocked down a three-pointer. Bucknell fought back to get within a 17-13 margin, but Colgate responded with a trio of three-pointers to take a 26-13 lead. Bucknell got within five points but the Raiders ended the half on a 10-4 run to take a 40-29 lead into the locker room.

Led by Boon, Bucknell began the second half on a 15-5 run. Roemer ended the Bucknell scoring spree with a three-pointer to give Colgate a 48-44 lead. Later in the half, after Boon hit another three-pointer, Rolls responded with one of his own to give Colgate a 53-49 advantage. Consecutive shots from Boon and Muscala tied the game at 53. The Raiders then went on a 6-0 run to go up 59-53 with 4:07 left. Darryl Shazier responded with a jumper and a fast-break layup to bring Bucknell within two points.

Colgate (5-14, 1-4) will host Holy Cross on Wednesday (Jan. 27) at 7 p.m. The game will be on Patriot League All-Access.
