HAMILTON, N.Y. (1/13/10)
-- Jared Mintz scored 22 points as Lafayette defeated Colgate 95-82 on Wednesday night.

Ryan Willen scored 19 points, while Jim Mower and Jeff Kari had 14 and 11 for the Leopards (11-6, 2-0), who shot 57 percent from the field.

Senior guard Kyle Roemer (Martinez, Calif.) scored 31 points for the Raiders, who had won their previous four games. Roemer made 9-of-15 field goals and all 11 of his free throws. Sophomore forward Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, Ga.) had 22 points, connecting on 7-of-13 field goals and 7-of-9 free throws.

Sophomore point guard Anthony Hill (Plano, Texas) quelled an early Lafayette run with a three-pointer that gave Colgate an early 13-12 lead. Willen responded with a three-pointer, kick-starting a 16-3 run to give the Leopards a 28-16 lead with 10:16 remaining in the half. Roemer got hot and would later cut Lafayette's lead down to five after a three-point play, but Lafayette went on another run and closed the half with a ten-point lead, 45-35.

Lafayette scored the first eight points of the second half thanks in part to five from Willen. Trailing 53-35, Colgate responded with a 14-5 run, with Gyawu scoring eight of those points off a dunk, three-pointer, and three-point play. The momentum then swung when Kari stole a pass and went coast-to-coast for a fast-break layup, starting an 11-2 Lafayette run that gave the Leopards a 69-51 lead with 13:16 left. Lafayette would stretch its lead to as many as 23, but Colgate went on a 24-10 run to make the game interesting late, cutting the deficit to 90-81 with just over a minute left. Lafayette, which has now won seven of its last eight games, made its free throws down the stretch to seal the win.

Colgate connected on 48 percent of its shots and 21-of-25 free throws.

The Raiders (5-11, 1-1) will face American on Sunday at 2 p.m. in Washington D.C. The game will be televised on CBS College Sports.
