Colgate Field Hockey Falls To CMU

Sarah Pedersen made 11 saves in net for Colgate

HAMILTON, N.Y. (9/4/09) – Lauren Leed broke open a one-goal game with two goals in a five minute span in the second half to propel visiting Central Michigan to a 3-0 victory over Colgate, Friday evening in front of 348 fans at Tyler's Field.

The Chippewas, now 1-0, grabbed the lead for good with less than 10 minutes left in the first half.  After goalie Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) came out of net and saved the initial shot, Erin Dye picked up the ball from the left side and poked it into the empty cage at 25:27.  CMU went into intermission with a 1-0 advantage.

Leed upped CMU's lead to 2-0 at 55:10 with a deflection from the right side off a shot out top from Kelly Jordan.  The sophomore scored her second goal of the campaign with a high chip shot that went into the back of the cage at 59:56.

Melinda Curran made one save in net for Central Michigan en route to the victory.
Pedersen saved 11 shots to push her two-game total to 20 on the season.  The senior saved six in the opening half and five more in the second 35-minute period.

Colgate, 0-2 overall, returns to action Sunday afternoon as it hosts Rider.  The game is set for a 12 p.m. start at Tyler's Field.
