Colgate Falls 2-0 at Cornell

ITHACA, N.Y. (9/16/09) - The Colgate women's soccer team suffered a 2-0 setback to area rival Cornell University Wednesday evening at Charles F. Berman Field in Ithaca, N.Y.

Freshman goalkeeper Ashley Walsh (Cicero, N.Y.) made five saves for the Raiders, but it wasn't enough to hold off the Big Red.

Cornell gained an early lead when freshman Hannah Labadie knocked a hard shot from 18 yards out on the left side of the box.  The goal gave Cornell a 1-0 advantage just short of 12 minutes into the match.

The Raiders best chance to score in the first half came a few minutes later when rookie midfielder Alyssa Manoogian (Peabody, Mass.) took a direct shot on goal, but Cornell's Kelly Murphy was able to make the save.

The Big Red scored their second goal of the game 14:25 into the second half.  Leading scorer Sam Wright passed the ball up the field to rookie Maneesha Chitanvis for the breakaway goal to ensure the win for Cornell.

The Raiders, now 1-4-2, will host St. Bonaventure this Friday evening at 7 p.m. under the lights on Van Doren Field.
