Men's Lacrosse Falls to Navy in Triple Overtime

LEWISBURG, Pa. (4/24/09) – Navy's Joe Lennon scored 1:14 into the third overtime session to top Colgate men's lacrosse, 9-8, in the semifinals of the Patriot League Tournament, Friday night at Christy Mathewson Memorial Stadium.

Both teams had opportunities to end the game during the first two overtimes including a man-up opportunity for the Raiders in the first session and a shot in the second by junior Ian Murphy (Constantia, N.Y.) that hit the crossbar.

Junior Zach Craumer (Greenwich, Conn.) led the Raiders in scoring with a career-high four goals, while both senior Nick Monastero (Bohemia, N.Y.) and junior Michael Crown (Winnetka, Ill.) record two-points apiece.
 
The Raiders held Navy scoreless for 15-minutes scoring three straight goals to build an 8-6 lead with three-minutes remaining in regulation, but the Mid's managed to tie the game after a pair of goals from Lennon to force overtime.     
 
Colgate (9-5, 5-1) recorded the first three goals of the game to take a 4-1 lead into the second quarter. Senior Brandon Corp (Chittenango, N.Y.) opened the game with his 34th goal of the season to extend his scoring streak to 47-games and was followed by two from Craumer to give the Raiders a 3-0 lead mid-way through the first. Navy scored with 6:30 remaining to trim the lead to 3-1, the lead remained the same until the final second when Craumer scored for the third time in the quarter one tick remaining. Navy held possession of the ball in the closing seconds before Crown forced a turnover and sprinted down the field to find Craumer all alone with one second remaining.

Navy (10-4, 4-2) scored three goals in the second quarter to tie the game 4-4 at halftime.

The Mid's took their first lead of the game early in the third quarter but it didn't last long as Crown again forced a turnover and rushed down field, this time he took shot to tie the game 5-5. Navy responded with a goal at 3:06 for a 6-5 lead, but Murphy recorded his 11th of the season with 1:56 remaining to tie the game 6-6 after the first three quarters.  
 
Junior Tim Harrington (Lutherville, Md.) tallied nine stops in goal for Colgate, while Tommy Phelan posted nine saves for the Mid's.
