Women's Basketball Battles Army on Saturday

HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/6/09) -   The Colgate women's basketball will take on Army, for the second of three consecutive road games, this Saturday, Feb. 7.  Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m. at Christl Arena in West Point, N.Y.

The Raiders (4-18, 0-7 PL) will face the Black Knights (13-9, 3-4) for the second time this season, after falling to Army at Cotterell Court, 63-51, in their first conference match-up of the 2008-09 back on Jan. 10.  This will be the 44th meeting between the two teams with the Black Knights holding an all-time series lead of 26-18, including a record of 13-7 at home.  Army has won the last six meetings including their win at Cotterell Court in January.

Colgate, who had the week off after playing Navy on Jan. 31, is looking to snap an eight game losing streak that has placed them in eighth place in the Patriot League.  Army currently sits tied for fifth place in the conference with wins against Lafayette and Colgate and is the only team in the league to have defeated first place Lehigh.

Freshman Tricia Oakes (Evergreen, Colo.) led the Raiders against Army in their previous meeting this season, registering her second career double-double with 11 points and 11 boards.  Junior Katie Garman (Poplar Grove, Ill.) followed with 10 points, while Candice Green (East Brunswick, N.J.) added eight points and Sami Kozlowski (New Market, Md.) tallied a game-high five assists.  Kozlowski and Oakes, along with sophomore Tayler Wejnert (Ramsey, N.J.) are currently the Raiders top-scorers, with Wejnert averaging 10.5 points per game, Kozlowski with 9.8 and Oakes contributing 9.6 points per game.  Oakes and Georgia Gier (Mercer Island) lead Colgate on the boards this season, with Oakes averaging 6.4 rebounds per game and Gier averaging 6.2.

Army's Alex McGuire led all scorers in the Jan. 10 game, knocking down 21 points.  Erin Anthony added another 12 points and had a game-high 16 rebounds for the Black Knights.  McGuire is currently Army's top-scorer, averaging 13.7 points per game, followed by Anthony, who is also the team's top rebounder, averaging 10.5 points and 8.7 boards per outing.
