HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/4/09) – Alex Woodhouse (Alexandria, VA) scored all 13 of his points in the second half to lead Colgate to a 68-57 Patriot League win over Bucknell Wednesday night at Cotterell Court.
Colgate (7-14, PL 3-5) snaps a three-game losing streak while taking sole possession of sixth place in the league standings. Bucknell (5-17, PL 2-6) falls for the third straight time and remains winless in 13 road games.
Woodhouse added eight rebounds and five blocked shots to the Colgate attack, while freshman guard Anthony Hill (Plano, TX) scored a career-high 14 points. Mike Venezia (Westfield, NJ) and Yaw Gyawu (Lilburn, GA) tallied 10 apiece for the Raiders.
Patrick Behan led the Bison with 18 points, while Justin Castleberry added 13 and Bryan Cohen 11.
Bucknell took control of the game early, jumping out to a 17-4 lead with 10:52 left, before Colgate started climbing back into the contest. The Raiders put together a 17-2 run behind six points from Gyawu and four from Sterling Melville (Plano, TX) to take a 21-19 lead with 3:17 remaining.
The Bison, who shot 50 percent in the first half from the field, came back for a 26-23 halftime lead.
After Bucknell opened the second half with a bucket, Colgate scored 13 straight points and never looked back. Woodhouse tallied four points and Venezia started the rally with a deep 3-pointer. The Raiders were able to increase their advantage to 11 points on three occasions including the final margin.
With Colgate leading 53-44 with 3:55 remaining, Bucknell was forced to foul, and the Raiders responded by making 13-of-16 free throws down the stretch.
Colgate shot 34 percent from the field, while Bucknell dropped to 43 percent for the game. The Raiders were 28-of-35 from the charity stripe, while the Bison were 4-of-10. Colgate out-rebounded Bucknell 42-29.
Colgate continues its four-game home stand playing host to Army on Saturday afternoon.
