HAMILTON, N.Y. (2/25/09) – Devin Brown scored 13 points and Andrew Beinert added 12 to lead Holy Cross to a 60-58 come-from-behind win over Colgate Wednesday night in a Patriot League game at Cotterell Court.

Holy Cross improves its overall record to 15-13 and league mark to 10-3 with a sweep of the home-and-home series against Colgate.  The Raiders dropped their fourth straight contest to fall to 9-18 overall and 5-8 in the league.

Colgate is in a three-way tie for fourth place in the league standings with one game remaining in the regular season.  The top four teams in the final standings will host a quarterfinal round game in the Patriot League Tournament on March 4.

With the score tied at halftime, Colgate opened the final 20 minutes with a 12-2 run for a nine-point advantage, 40-31, with 14:09 remaining.  After Gyawu scored on a layup with 12:33 left to put Colgate ahead, 42-36, the Raiders went cold from the field scoring only one field goal over the next 11 minutes.

Trailing 58-52 with 1:03 left, Jonson scored on an old-fashion three-point play to draw the Raiders to within three points.  Adam May made one of two free throws to put the Crusaders in front 59-55 with 39 seconds left.  After a Colgate turnover, The Raiders were forced to foul and Colin Cunningham missed two free throws with 20.5 seconds left.  Then Trevaron Vinson (Arlington, TX) hit a 3-pointer with 4.7 seconds left to make the score 59-58.  Brown made the first of two free throws, and Gyawu grabbed the rebound, and made one last attempt to win the game but his half court shot was short.

In the first half, Holy Cross jumped out to a 26-15 lead with 7:32 left, before Colgate battled back for a 28-28 halftime tie.  The Raiders closed out the first half on a 13-2 run led by Anthony Hill (Plano, TX) with a pair of 3-pointers, and Gyawu with five points.

Holy Cross held the advantage on the boards, 38-24, including 21 offensive rebounds.  Colgate shot 46 percent from the field, including 7-of-16 from behind the arc, but managed only 15-of-23 from the charity stripe.

The Raiders close out the regular season on Saturday at Navy.
