Nerbonne Climbs Up Career Point List In Loss to Bucknell

HAMILTON, N.Y. (10/24/09)  – Katelyn Nerbonne (Bow, N.H.) posted a three-point afternoon to continue her climb up Colgate's all-time point list, but it wasn't enough as visiting Bucknell registered a 4-2 victory, Saturday afternoon in a Patriot League field hockey clash at Tyler's Field.

Nerbonne moved into a tie for fourth with Ruthie Lynn with a goal and assist versus the Bison.  The senior heads into her final collegiate game next Saturday versus Lafayette with 65 points, only four points behind Maggie Montaigne for third on the all-time list.

Bucknell, which improved to 10-6 overall and 3-1 in league action, led 2-0 on goals from Austin Thomas and Christine Weiss at 19:37 and 28:28 respectively.  However, like in the Cornell game a few weeks ago, the Raiders capitalized on a penalty corner in the closing seconds of the opening half.  Laura Denenga (Harare, Zimbabwe) blasted a shot from out top beating Jessie Atieh left side high with 13 seconds left to pull Colgate within 2-1 at intermission.  Nerbonne and Mika Ella-Tang (Port of Spain, Trinidad) each received assists. With the helper, Ella-Tang moved into sole possession of sixth place on the all-time assists list at Colgate with 16.

Trailing 3-1, Colgate's dynamic duo teamed up once again at 43:48 as Denenga fed Nerbonne inside and the senior put it in for her seventh goal of the year.  Bucknell finished scoring at 52:49 off a corner as Weiss accounted for her second of the game.

Sarah Pedersen (State College, Pa.) saved eight shots in net for Colgate, while Atieh turned aside nine shots.  Bucknell outshot the Raiders 23-14 on the afternoon.

Colgate, 1-14 overall, will conclude the 2009 season next Saturday morning as it hosts Lafayette.  Game time is set for an 11 a.m. start at Tyler's Field.
